Omgz like more SLHFGRBW blog stuff AKA I can't even think of a clever title right meow :(
Just re-read "Out to Sea". It was kinda sad. Originally I thought it was way more than kinda sad. I was kinda depressed after reading it, so I watched a video of baby pandas playing on a slide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4dMnAPZu70), which put me in a significantly better mood, and now I'm still reviewing how I actually feel about the story. Let's work it out tOgEthEr!!!
Sawtooth really likes the pairing of "damn fool", doesn't he? He also really likes to badmouth other people based on the basis of them being "damn fools", doesn't he? I'm gonna go all psychoanalyst and say he does that to deflect from the fact he might feel like a damn fool himself for not being able to remember anything about his life. That was the weirdest/saddest part for me--knowing that he *should* be able to remember certain people, but he can't, but he doesn't seem to feel sad about it himself. Just detached.
Maybe he isn't as concerned about his past life as my psychoanalyst self assumed a few minutes ago. He seems to feel annoyed that he can't place certain memories/people together, but it comes off as an annoyance like a pebble in your shoe than a loss of an entire life's worth of memories. I guess he's only concerned with being around other people. Which is very animal like. I was originally wondering where the real significant animal relevance was coming from, but I guess if you view an important part of being human as having a bunch of consistent connections with people you care a lot about, then Sawtooth is more like a member of an animal pack. Yeah, Augie stands out to her because he reminds her of something from his past life, but all he really cares about is feeling connected to something, and Augie manages to do that. I feel like he probably could have forged something close to that connection with a lot of the youngster felons.
Then again, I don't know how many young felons would have been down to lick all around his stump. That was pretty weird, yo.
Still not sure what to think exactly of the Stingrays. Or the statue of the Virgin. Maybe talk about them in class? Who knows?! Oooh!
For your anon (you would probably find the book interesting as well, though maybe you've already read it) a book called Shunka: Life with an Arctic Wolf is an excellent read that illustrates very well the difference between wolves and dogs, that it doesn't matter how young you get them, and how training doesn't work. It is a fascinating read about a family that raises a wolf from a pup, and the challenges they face along the way.
That’s nice! I never knew the book thanks a lot! :)
