what kirby games do you recommend playing and which versions/order, if you don't mind me asking? I've played Kirby's Dream Land on GBC and a little bit of the NES one.
okay so if you have a wii or wii u then i’d recommend picking up kirby’s dream collection, if you can find it at a decent price. it has the first six main games in the series all on one disc. otherwise these are the essential kirby games, with the ones on dream collection marked with an asterisk. i’ll list all the systems you can get these games for, but all you really need if you want to play them on official hardware is a wii (or a wii u) and a 3ds
kirby’s adventure* - originally on nes, you can also get it on wii or wii u virtual console. there’s also a 3d classics version on the 3ds eshop if you think the added stereoscopic 3d effects are neat. it was remade as nightmare in dream land on the gba, but personally? honestly? the 8-bit version has a better art style
kirby super star* - originally on snes. this is most peoples’ favorite kirby, and the one on this list that you absolutely have to play if you’re interested in the series. i’d recommend picking up super star ultra for ds, which is a remake with much prettier graphics and a whole ton of extra endgame content. if you can’t get your hands on that though then the original is still excellent, and it’s on both wii and wii u virtual console
kirby’s dream land 3* - originally on snes. i have a lot of issues with this game but it’s still extremely adorable and a pretty important entry in the series, clunkiness aside. you can get it on both wii and wii u virtual console i believe
kirby 64: the crystal shards* - one of my favorites, and a direct sequel to dream land 3. you can mix powers in this one, there are lots of cute cutscenes with kirby and his friends, and every world feels like its own little adventure. also available on wii and wii u virtual console
kirby’s return to dream land - available on wii, and also on the wii u eshop. this one was a pretty big deal when it was released and was seen as a return to form for the series after a lot of smaller releases in the decade between this and 64. it’s also a pretty good game to start with as it doesn’t rely too heavily on callbacks to earlier kirby games
kirby triple deluxe - for 3ds. it’s a followup to return to dream land
kirby planet robobot - the newest game in the series, for 3ds, which is a followup to triple deluxe. it is extremely good and it may be my new favorite game in the series, maybe. it’s up there
playing these in release order is fine, although it’s not entirely necessary. i’d just say save planet robobot for after super star if you don’t want some of the cooler twists to fly over your head
