"Don't... Please, its not worth it..." Charlie pushes against his chest a bit, putting herself between them. "Its fine..."
“Charlie.” His voice is harsh, his breathing steady and calm. “They tried to kill you. It’s no longer an option. If they wanted it to be fine they should have left.”

He restrained her down, grabbing a needle from his table top. Drawing blood from her arm, he didn’t say anything. After filling up the syringe, he pulled back and wrapped it. “I’m sure my baby brother will come and watch you.”
Don’t wanna fight the world alone{RavenWolf Drabble}
Kenzi sat on the porch a glass of tea in her hands with her knees pulled to her chest as she watched a few members of the pack trying to get the bonfire going. The pups where tossing a football around while the older men where mostly talking and drinking beers. Even after a year Kenzi pulled back from the pack, never fully putting herself into things. Pulling her sweater tighter around her, she took a sip, giving a tiny smile as she watched one of the younger boys tackle his friend. The feeling of eyes on her made her shift in her seat just as she sniffed the air. Duke. “Ya can take a seat you know.” “Not gonna say you wont bite?” His gruff voice returned, making things low in her stomach twist into knots. He was still getting used to using his voice so the sound of it was still like gravel. She tipped her head to look up at him, a tiny smile on her lips “That would be a lie. Cause I got a bite. Worse then my bark” The chuckle that left him startled her a bit and she stared at him as he took the seat next her, pouring himself some of the sweet tea. She watched him as he sipped it, her eyes moving over his features, half shadowed in the setting son and the now blazing bonfire off in the yard. He looked so dark, haunted and yet...almost at ease more then before. “Tastes like my mama’s” It took her a moment to shake from her thoughts before she dipped her head, staring down at her own glass. “Hope so. She taught me to make it. Said something about ‘Any proper girl down here should know how to make damn good sweet tea.’” “Sounds like her..” his tone became darker and Kenzi regretted saying anything. The two sat in silence, the only sounds the laughter from the pack in the yard. After about ten minutes she finally spoke up. “I spent nine months shifted. Took your Ma and dad a good two to get me to come out of the woods. I think I still spend more time on four paws then two feet. Feels like I don’t have to be scared. I have the power and not the hunters, not the pain..” “Feels like you can just run and never worry about anything.” “Pretty much.” They sat there just content to be near each other. It wasn’t till she was starting to think she should head back inside when Duke spoke up. “You do have a pack you know. You don’t have to be apart from them..If my dad says you are good for the pack you are.” She looked up at him, blue eyes widening slightly. “I don’t...” Shaking her head she sighed “Maybe you should take your own advice” “Maybe.” “I’ll go down there if you do.” She stood up, stretching out her limps before holding her hand out to him. He stared at it as if it was going to burn him before looking into her eyes. The knot in her stomach seemed to grow tighter as she looked into his dark eyes, wondering if he was going to turn her down. But when his much larger hand slide into hers she let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding. “Lead the way darlin’” With a shared smile they headed down to the bonfire, joining the pack. Duke hadn’t let her hand go the night and the ended up curled up on the grass, watching the fire blaze when Adam, a older member of the pack, pulled out his guitar and started to play. It was the first night in a long time that either of them felt like they where home. The first of many.

A year ago Kenzi had made her way south, after her pack and family had been murdered by hunters, leaving only her. It was pure luck really as she’d been out of town at University and had come home only to find her home burnt to the ground and pack dead.She spent nearly a year in wolf form, mourning and searching for a new pack. She had been lucky to find the Blood Paw pack, the alpha offering to take her in as one of theirs.
During her time with the pack she learned that the Alpha’s son Duke had taken off, shifting a year before hand and not returning after the woman he loved left him. Most of the pack wouldn’t talk about him and Kenzi didn’t press, not while she was still new to the pack.
But things changed a few weeks ago. Duke had returned after Kurt, the alpha and his father, mate and wife had passed away. She’d only caught a glimpse of the man, in owe of his large stature but it was a fleeting moment. Now three weeks later most of the pack wondered if he hadn’t left again. Kenzi had been out on a run, returning just before dusk to find her alpha waiting for her at the door with new clothes. As she shifted back and slide on the offered jeans and shirt she looked to her alpha with confusion “Sir?” “I want you to go speak with Duke. He’s in his room and as hard as I’ve tired I can’t get him out. I’m hoping you can help. There’s some food on a tray in the kitchen for him.” Nodding she headed to the kitchen, picking up the tray. She wondered if Kurt asked her only because she was one of the only people in the pack who had spent so much time in wolf form. Heading to the room she knocked on the door, waiting for an answer. “Duke? Your dad sent me with food.”
