𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐀𝐍 𝐇𝐎𝐖𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐓 waits a long time until he tells you that he loves you. It's something so special to him that he fears it will lose power if said out loud too often. He can't help it — his heart beats in another century. The world felt more flowery back then, like poetry, a distant dream he didn't fully remember, whereas nowadays, society is complicated and repulsive. Or is it Logan that has changed?
Either way, he's noticed that "love" has lost its meaning. Everyone seems to love everything... Absentmindedly, at that.
Wade 'loves' chimichangas. Vanessa 'loves' Lauras earrings. Even you sometimes say the word out of reflex, often despite not really feeling that way.
Things have changed since he was a little boy, oblivious to the claws under his skin waiting to unsheat themselves and tear his life to shreds. Words used to mean something.
To Logan, they very much still do. They mean everything. Back when he first met you, he was at a loss, didn't know how to express what he felt. Desperate to make you see how utterly infatuated he found himself simply by your way of living.
So, he stayed silent. And he regretted it, because it felt terribly horribly wrong. Silence doesn't speak louder than words — it doesn't speak at all.
Actions, however, do. It all changed when you heard everything he didn't say just by looking into his eyes.
Now, he didn't need to say it. Every small glance, every affectionate gaze thrown your way was a token of his devotion. And he looked at you a lot.
It takes you off guard when Logan does say "I love you". You'd accepted that he wasn't the type to say it. You didn't even mind, not when you found his affection in little gestures sprinkled into your mundane life, into the very same rhythm that used to feel like a prison. Not when your bond went way further than three tiny overrated words.
Suddenly, out of his lips, they feel like a whole world. It's a spur of the moment thing, nothing too fancy. Very him.
Still, it leaves you dumbfounded. Giddy, too. You didn't think you'd ever hear it! Turns out, Logan always found a way to surprise you, even after all those years.
It means a lot to him, actually. Even if he doesn't show that (you see it anyway — in the kiss, in the way he couldn't take his eyes off of you after and in the way he holds you that night). It's a testament to his commitment. To the way he changed. To time liquifying wounds until they spread over skin, balancing the pain to make it bearable.
Logan waited very long to say it. Only thought it was right once he had seen every side of you. Suspected that he was falling as early on as the first day you met — when you introduced yourself to him so cheerfully, eyes bright and arms open. Waited in spite of it, even though he was sure it's you, it will always be you... For knowing you completely should be when he surrendered at last. When he let himself breathe you in, finally, without restraint, when he allowed himself to feel you with every fiber of his being.
He loves you. And you knew that, he's sure you did, but he wants to spend everyday he's left to live reminding you. Making sure you believe it.
