Women killing men on screen
Society is desensitized to violence against women on screen. Every day women get killed by their partners, raped and assaulted by yet another man and it brushes the news on a mere footnote sometimes. When depicted on screen in fiction, it's normal, to be expected, "real world building" for fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, whose latest installment was progressive enough to have a world where black Velaryons exist, Targaryens were happily mixed and apparently free of racism, but not free of misogyny. Misogyny was enthusiastically defended by its creator as a realistic approach (of a fantasy series). Time and time again fiction relishes in the pornography of female suffering, the oppression of women and the sadistic enjoyment men of power have over them. When the tables are turned, it's suddenly seen as subversive, a statement, a disruption of the (what shouldn't be) normal. Women killing men is political, it's "too much". Movies like Promising Young Woman or Midsommar get labeled as men hating flicks, while even the very democratic, mildly-feminist Barbie got labeled the same for simply centering the political power on women and not catering to Ken's feelings. Killing men on screen is seen as a threat because everyone knows, deep down, women are the only party that has real life motives to "get even". And that's a scary thought men don't want to be faced with, it holds out a mirror to them and all they see is guilt.
