Balan Wonderworld AU: The Wondermakers
"Say no and we will go, gone with the next breeze.” “Say yes and we will give you your heart's power.” “And that is to freeze." The two lanky figures finished their poem in unison, then held out a strange little thing, both using one hand to support it. A pink gem-like structure in the shape of an eight-sided die with a single shimmering, silvery snowflake within. She reached out slowly and took hold of it. In a flash, she felt strength, power, and grace all fill her very being. Iben Bia was reborn. She could trot along thin air, She could create snow balls from thin air, and she could hit with the force of several sledgehammers. “Welcome, New Wonder.” Said the hatted man, his ever-present, toothy grin somehow widening. “To do nothing would be a blunder.” Said the one with purple boots. “Go out and find those in need.” “Where you go, you will plant hope’s seed.” “But be warned of the gift’s price.” “Your sorrow will suffice.” They finished in unison again, and a small weight fell from her being as if by magic. And as well as if by magic, the men disappeared, leaving the new hero to her duty. ---- Cast your mind to world with no theater, no need for a maestro. Instead it has need of the Wondermakers. A strange pair of almost elf-like beings who find the hurt, the downtrodden, and the broken. To them, they grant power. Strength, speed, flight, any number of things, making them “Wonders.” But to what end? To raise their spirits. To grant them, for a time, a purpose. Saving lives and helping their fellow man with both the very things that bring them pain and bring them joy. Iben, for example, has ice-related powers because she likes wintery things. It’s easy to be closed off in such a harsh climate but the ways she’s found to keep happy in such weather, snowball fights, ice skating, building a snow or ice sculpture... She’s in some kind of heaven as a strange creature made of shadows and spite lashes at her only to be frozen and subsequently shattered. “What are these shadow creatures?” you might ask. For every “Wonder” created, some sorrow leaves. A portion of the pain you need to be granted the powers in the first place. This is harnessed in ways none but the Wondermakers know. And with it they create entities called Negati. Something for the Wonders to brawl against until, as the last of the pain finally leaves them, it all coalesces. A single massive negati is born from such brawls. A last, worthy challenge for the heroes to overcome. The most recent batch of Wonders, however, fought as a unit, bringing their negative emotions to a new scale. Fourteen supreme negati threaten the world of man with destruction, and now, Balan, as part of the fault, steps up to guide the heroes on their quest to vanquish these great foes and help them all at last move on from their woe. Lance, the second of the duo, was consumed by the misery and now works with the monsters. --- So yeah, Superhero AU I thought up. Good or bad?
