Top five Grace & Frankie moments & top five fic tropes ❤️

This is sad but Grace and Frankie is like….blurry to me right now? It’s wild that it’s been nearly four years since the show ended, and I haven’t watched any episodes since then. I should do a rewatch. But here are some important G&F moments, aided by a quick peek at the episode guides:

1. “Fuck me in the eye.” (From the episode where Grace and Frankie hurt their backs and get stuck on the floor.)

2. I think Robert is in the hospital? And there is a terrible voicemail or voicenote mishap with Bud? I LOL’d.

3. The rant in front of their families that basically launches Vybrant.

4. Everything about Babe’s end-of-life decisions and how Frankie and Grace each react.

5. Dolly Parton cameo and everything about the way the show wrapped up.

(I am somewhat stressed that I devoted so much to this show and can barely remember specifics but I think maybe it’s because I wasn’t a big G&F episode rewatcher!?! I just answered an ask about top 5 TL moments and wrote a novel, but I’ve done a LOT more source material rewatching with that show.)

EDITED TO ADD: I just spent more time with the episode synopses and how could I forget the s2 episode where Grace and Frankie have to go to Robert and Sol’s house and feel a lot of really genuine emotions and then decide to help themselves to the fancy Vitamix R&S received as a wedding present!!!!!!

Fic tropes:

1. I love anything that’s in the “there was only one bed” category or just any kind of scenario—especially a travel scenario—where the physical reality is more intimate than either character had bargained for.

2. Sex pollen.

3. Hurt/comfort, particularly when a character who’s really prickly gets vulnerable, or when a character who’s always doing the most for other people must accept care.

4. Huddling for warmth, survival type stuff.

5. I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a fic trope but I love it when a fic plays with a canon concept and really heightens it in a way that suits the written form. For example, magic realism in Ted Lasso fics.

He squeezed his eyes shut and the anguish on his face tore at her heart. “Not the bed.”

He shook his head as he sat. “Sorry, I thought I could handle it.”

She wiped his brow and caressed his cheek. “Just take it slow and steady, baby.” She took one of his hands and kissed it tenderly. “Remember I always got you.”

I’m sorry, your mom used to play with WHO?!?! (SLB was my favorite show as a kid 😂)

and also:

not live studio taping, just the concert clips that came from real kids' concerts. the elephant show was also my favorite show, to the point where my imaginary friend was named "sharon" and i requested skinamarink as a hymn once in church. BIG fan!!!

my mom didn't tour after i was born, but she played piano accompaniment in some of their concerts that were near where we lived. at one point (maybe 3rd birthday?), we went out to lunch with sharon before or after a show. i was the thing that never shut up when i was a preschooler (this has not changed), but i said NOTHING, i was soooo intimidated by this experience.

i only remember a few flashes of it, but i think part of it was the fourth wall being removed, and part of it was that people look very different in real life than on TV or on stage! would you like to hold hands with your favorite tv star/imaginary friend in the uncanny valley? noooooooooo mommy save me 😭

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

There are so many tropes I haven’t written, sadly. I really wanna do “there was only one bed” tho. Also I’ve never really done coffee shop AU! BLASPHEMY! 

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

I’m actively watering about 3 of them right now. All hicsqueak. The first is a really long, plot-driven rip off of Angel: The Series and involves Greek mythology, bad magic, and a lot of angst. The second is an hicsqueak version of the film The Lake House, and it’s ENTIRELY @atheneglaukopis’ fault. The third is a “road trip” au that’s more like a “european tour” au that happens after Hecate’s confinement is lifted and she and Pippa just tool around Italy and France for a while while Hecate deals with her shit and Pippa just heart-eyes the entire time. 

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

If it’s a complicated fic (like the first one mentioned above) I will make an outline. Otherwise, g-d speed to me i’m back on my bullshit. 

33. How do you feel about crack?

I have to be in the right mood for it. I can dig it! It’s gotta be well-done though.

2: If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?

okay i feel like my answer should be about someone important or like really smart or like a Change Maker but honestly i’d feel like i was wasting their time lol. so i’m gonna go with an actor instead hahaha and i’ve been really lucky to have met a lot of my favs already but one that would be AMAZING for me would be Joyce DeWitt from Three’s Company because she was my whole entire childhood. OR REBA MCENTIRE. definitely reba mcentire 

11: Do you have any strange phobias?

i am really really freaked by fish and open water. i alwAYS think something is gonna grab me. and also this is so morbid but when i’m in the woods or like, near bodies of water im always TERRIFIED that im going to find a dead body lol

23: How do you vent your anger?

normally in like 30 separate consecutive texts to my friends. i dont get angry a lot, or actually my anger translates to sadness a lot hahaha

28: What’s your biggest “what if”?

what if i had stayed in new york after my graduation. i was killing it for a while there with a lot of momentum but then i came back to my home town and i’ve been here for years and have done short films and theatre but last year completely lost all my motivation and let fear completely consume me. 

29: Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens?

partially yes (i believe in spirits? idk if i believe that they can like, slam doors and shit) (watch me get haunted tonight) and i definitely 100% believe in aliens call me mulder

FemslashEx authors were revealed today! I didn’t participate, but have been enjoying reading my way through the collection.

One of the stories I especially enjoyed was @wonderwanda’s Attitude of Gratitude. Since pandemic-influenced journaling plays a role in the story, it seemed appropriate to include it in my own pandemic-influenced journal.
