The sun rose just in time as your eyes fluttered, adjusting to the brightness of the cold morning. You began your stretches when you suddenly smelled something burning. Wearing your slippers and out of the room, you caught sight of Wonwoo in the kitchen. He didn’t seem to notice your presence when you realised today’s date on the calendar— your birthday.
Squirming and holding in your funny feelings in your chest, you observed your boyfriend’s attempt in preparing breakfast. You had a dilemma, whether you’d stay in bed and wait until he was done, or do him a reverse surprise attack and hug him from behind. Wonwoo swiftly moved in the counter, checking the second batch of hopefully-don’t-burn pancakes. He hummed your favourite song and tapped his feet.
In the end, you were now in bed waiting for the food he wholeheartedly prepared. You didn’t want to disturb him nor ruin his plan, so you listened to the playlist he had on his speaker. And you slowly drifted to dreamland..
Or not.
Wonwoo hissed at the dropped utensils, groaning at the noise. He was afraid maybe he would awake you and went to his trusty instinct; stealth mode.
His phone rang and the name Mingyu appeared on the screen. “Not now dude.” he whispered. “Yes I’m at y/n’s house, but I want to spend half day with her before you lot arrive here.”
Your ears perked up at his reason. The once ironed pillow now received its creases from your curled fingers. Its soft fabric and thick casing managed to reduce your yell in happiness. In delight and seeing stars of wonders, you had no idea how many times you rolled back and forth on your bed. The rush of heat and wide smile had taken over you.
Wonwoo was not the expressive type, however, when he does get his feelings out there, they still got you off guard. Sometimes you have your jaw dropped or blink a couple of times to let the certain side of him sink in.
The door flung open where spotted you at the end of the bed, sounding asleep. He placed the tray down on the side table and carefully brought down your pajama shirt that was showing skin. He nudged you gently on the shoulder before you opened your eyes in shock to see so close to you, with your morning face.
“Oh my gosh,” you gasped and cover your mouth. “I haven’t washed up yet.”
He wasn’t the expressive type, as mentioned earlier. But you felt his lips brushed your forehead to plant a kiss, then your nose, then eventually your lips. “Happy birthday babe.” he greeted, and your face heated up so badly that you might’ve gotten sick.
Or love sick.
“T-thanks babe.” you replied shyly. He noticed your red cheeks and placed the back of this palms to your forehead.
“You’re not sick, are you?” he asked.
“N-no! Why would I be?” you chuckled in embarrassment. “You’re just.. too close.”
“Oh so that’s the reason why you’re red!” he leaned in closer and started to tickle you.
“Nevermind me! What you got there-” you looked behind him to see layers of pancakes with whipping cream on top and strawberries all around them.
Wonwoo scratched his neck, smiling shyly at the result of his countless attempt of creating a cake just for you— a breakfast cake. “I tried?..”
You kissed him in gratitude for his efforts. “Thank you Wonwoo.”
He caressed your cheeks but felt that a higher temperature from them. “You’re a little warm.” he said, touching your forehead again. “I’ll get a thermometer.”
Despite his worries, you continued eating the strawberries and pancake. You melt at the taste of it and clenched your fingers in delight.
“Arms up.” Wonwoo said, lifting your pajama sleeve a little so he could place it in your armpits. A beep soon was heard. “38.7 C.. Alright we’re staying in.”
“But the carnival..” you sighed, still munching on your fruits. You saw Wonwoo tapping away on his phone, like he was rushing to message someone.
“I’m telling the guys that I’ll spend the whole day with you since you’re sick.” he slid his phone in his pockets.
You leaned on his shoulder for support. “Won’t they be mad? I mean we did plan we’d celebrate my birthday at the carnival.”
“They’ll understand, y/n.” he moved you gently so that his arms acted as your pillow. “Besides, half day isn’t enough for me anyway.”
