ARE YOU READY TO WOOGIE DOWN?
The second annual Woogie Weekend 2016 is upon us! Perhaps you’re missing those LiB vibes, or you’re ready for a new festival experience, whatever it is, Woogie Weekend is the summer festival for you! Last year I had an absolute blast at this new festival, and I’m excited to see what is in store its sophomore year!
Woogie Weekend was introduced last year by the Do LaB (the same awesome team that brings you Lightning In A Bottle, the Do LaB stage at Coachella and Dirty Bird Campout), and is back again for round two! It is hosted in Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA July 8-10, 2016. This park is just 1.5 hours south of LA, so it makes for the perfect weekend adventure for some LA and SD festies to reunite!
Woogie Weekend is 18+, and also allows for children under 18, but they must be accompanied by a parent. The weekend is spent camping just outside the festival main area, and then all the activities take place in the grassy park space. It’s similar in design to LiB, where you easily walk in and out.
Woogie hosts two beautiful stages, The Hive and the Beat Nest to showcase house beats and techno at a weekend that’s reminiscent of summer camp. The grounds are beautiful at Oak Canyon Park with a small lake separating the two stages. You can take paddle boats out on the lake, or maybe try the giant slip and slide to cool down. Check out my photo essay from last year, for more pictures of all the craziness that ensues!
Musical artists this year includes a world-class collection of DJs. Some favorites are Claptone, BLOND:ISH, Kidnap Kid and Mathew Jonson (live). The stages are the colorfully designed ones you’ve come to know from the Do LaB, and offer abundant space to dance and groove. You can get stoked on the lineup with the awesome Woogie Weekend 2016 Soundcloud Mix Playlist, and maybe even discover some new artists you’ll want to check out there!
The small stages make for an intimate environment to dance at all day and night long. There is a closeness you feel to everyone around you at Woogie because of the festival’s small size. It’s really a unique space for a festival, and a refreshing break from the huge crowds at most festivals these days.
Around the festival area, there’s also live art from the Do Art Foundation, sunrise yoga sets and an array of food and merchandise vendors. You’ll have plenty to do during the day and through the night, including lots of fun ways to cool down in the hot sun!
Still not feeling convinced? Check out the Woogie Weekend 2016 Official Lineup Trailer, and I’m sure you’re gonna feel the FOMO. So rally your friends (or heck, go alone, I did last year and had a blast), buy your tickets and get ready for a fun weekend of summer camp, Woogie style!
