HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! 🎉🎉🎉
consider: roman is a fine arts conservator-- okay, okay, he isn’t a conservator proper yet – but he’s really close at obtaining his master’s degree and he’s fairly certain that he’ll get hired by the museum he’s currently working in as a conservation technician.
and deceit is an ancient statue – or, rather, a person from ancient times that was turned into a statue by their patron deity - a certain goddess of beauty and love - as an act of protection and so that their beauty could be forever admired.
roman has the task of conserving the statue to avoid further damage – the poor thing had cracks on a side of the face, was missing a hand and had reportadly already gone through a bad fall in the past that almost broke off a whole leg. in the last case, however, they had luckily restored the damaged leg.
as usual, some visitors really couldn’t keep their damn hands to themselves.
and so, roman gets to work. he intends to document the whole process and keep the documentation for future reference. he is extremely passionate about what he does and how he does it. he loves art – art is such a beautiful, magnificent thing! how could he not love it? that thought alone horrifies him.
roman also has a rather peculiar habit, you see... he often “speaks” to the artifacts he’s working on. he firmly believes that art is alive, and considering that humans tend to be the subjects of art so often, why not interact? he knows he’s silly, he’s been told so quite a few times, but he doesn’t pay much mind to it. he tries not to.
and so he speaks to the statue as well. tells him about his day, how the weather is outside the walls of the museum, the latest, juiciest art gossip, etc. he prefers to work on his own, so people aren’t usually around to listen to his rants and he, at least, has the reassurance the no one is going to listen anyway. not that it would bother him, obviously!
except someone is. and it is right there with him.
