When to say “I love you”

I’d mutter through the phone And whisper into your ear I’ll tell you every night to soothe your every fear I’ll tell you over morning coffee I’d tell you again at 3 I’d moan under the sheets with your body over me I’ll yell it from rooftops I’d swear it to the stars I’ll slip it between kisses I will heal all of your scars I’d scream over your screams I’d remind myself although you’ve made it clear that you’re done with me I’d cry out as you go

bare feet and hushed voices cold nights and good choices simple sparks from sweet exchanges guitar strings and cigarette ashes

to feel something for nothing to be someone for no one

I'd hate to be just something

I yearn to be eveything and anything

I'm sorry I couldn't love you enough

please stop using me as an excuse for your bad decisions
