Serendipity (5 minute word sprint)

Her eyebrows furrowed. Had he seen the whole thing? Why the hell hadn't he come to help? As if sensing the question, Bell bowed with a jaunty flourish. "Forgive me for not helping Milady. I'm not sure I'm ready to meet your...friends. Yet." He grinned roguishly up at her before straightening, offering his palms in mock supplication, "But that doesn't mean we can't be friends, right, Fireling?" That did funny things to her stomach, so she hedged on a bluff, "I didn't need your help anyway. I'm no damsel." "Indeed not," was all he murmured in answer, his amber eyes burning into her with a heat that made her squirm. "Why do I keep seeing you, anyway? It's bizarre. Have you been stalking me or something?" Something in her gut tipped sideways at the idea. "Don't you believe in fate?" Although his tone teased, the intensity in his stare was alarming. She didn't waste any time in replying flatly, "No." He seemed to mull that over. "Well, then, what about serendipity?" She huffed a laugh. "Meeting will be our happy little accident. You can call this particular accident Bell," he added, tapping his chest. Ash eyed him warily for a moment before sighing and raising two fingers in a tired salute,

"Ash." Her newly minted friend-- Bell-- tipped his chin back and closed his eyes against the warm afternoon sun, the corners of his lips tugging back just slightly. "Nice to meet you, Ash."
