An invitation encased in a velvet envelope, left on the doorstep for the receiver to find

(For Willow)

Having just returned from a trip to the grocery shop at the end of the street, Willow's steps came to a quick pause as she noticed the velvet envelope left right at the doorstep of her apartment. There was no name or address written upon it yet it was clear its contents were meant for her; a quick look at the doorsteps of her neighbors across the hall that were empty of similar velvet envelopes told her that.

Stepping over the suspicious mail for a moment, Willow unlocked her apartment door and placed the bags full of groceries down so she could pick up the envelope and take it inside as well, closing the door behind her once she did.

Once everything was in place, she could finally turn her attention to the mysterious envelope. She held it in both hands, feeling its weight. It wasn't heavy, nor bulky. There were no apparent signs of hindering with the glue tape of the seals, or any funny or distinctive scents coming from it. When one would assume this was just mail, Willow had begged the differ. It was better being safe than sorry; Gotham was full of people with ill intentions.

Eventually, she decided to just open it. And the contents inside were even more surprising then the envelope itself.

... It was an advertisement for a party. A Halloween party. The material of it was cheap, and nothing was printed on the other end. Admittedly, the lack of location was a little odd, but the words "After Dark" could have indicated it was a little more on the adult side of things.

There was a number a line below, in small writing, to RSVP attendance. Honestly, Willow hadn't attended a Halloween party in years. She hesitated, her eyes scanning the words and the font over and over again. What harm could it possibly do? If she didn't like it, she could just leave. It wouldn't be the first party she attends to alone.

Fishing out her phone from her jacket's pocket, she saved the number to her phone and sent the following message:

Hey there. I got your invitation regarding the Fright Night party? I'd like to sign up?

the sun is going down. it's getting dark.

"It is." Willow agreed in a quiet voice as she took another long drag from her joint, watching as the sun gradually sank beyond the horizon the two of them were watching.

"I think it's pretty, don't you? How vivid the colors of dusk can be, right before everything turns pitch black." She added.

IN CHARACTER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS . // ⚔️ CROSSED SWORDS — do you have any skills that you are absolutely grateful you have and that mean a lot to you? how do you usually use these skills? would they come in handy if someone you cared about was in trouble? (For Willow?)

"That is an interesting question." Willow pondered aloud. "I suppose that I am grateful for my voice mimicking ability, even if I am not grateful for how I got it. Without this ability, I suppose I would have remained completely mute for the rest of my life. Not that being mute is a problem — i found myself prefer prefer the intimacy and physical emotion of sign language to the emptiness of verbal words many times before. Or just if to wave off someone you really don't want to talk to." She answered.

"I suppose there is some use to the espionage skills I acquired during my time as an information broker, too. You learn to read the room, read people, anticipate moves, and adapt to certain situations you normally would either run or feel uncomfortable with. You learn to temper your emotions. Some people think it's just playing it cold and distant, but that's not the case part of the time. You just learn not to get emotionally attached, I suppose, but you can definitely fake emotion in a convincing enough way to get what you need. Mimicking voices helps; you'll be surprised to see how people react to different types of voices." She sighed.

"Would it come in handy if someone I knew was in trouble? Depends on the trouble. It's not much of a combat skill. I guess if it had to do with negotiation, then maybe I would have a chance."

[COLOUR | 🙈] The world is black and white until you make contact with your soulmate. (Can you imagine how fucked up it would be for Willow if Roman Sionis of all people was her soulmate?)

Willow's ears were ringing, and her head felt like it would split open any minute now. She could taste the metallic flavor of her own blood in her mouth. Her body ached as if it had been through torture. And, in a sense, she supposed she wasn't too far off.

Just a short while ago, Willow had entered the bank to make a withdrawal since the ATM machines outside were broken, the line only growing bigger by the minute, and the next... Screams. Gunfire. It all happened so fast, so quick, ending in a note of detonation that brought most of the interior to rubble.

She wasn't really sure where she was right now. She couldn't move, not sure whether it was because her body refused to cooperate, she was trapped under the rubble, or she was restrained by something else. She didn't hear much due to the ringing in her ears, and her eyes tried to focus as she opened them, one of them couldn't open all the way. But it didn't matter because even without a focused view, she could tell she was dying.

She was seeing color.

Given, Willow was disabled in a few ways, from being mute to a rickety mental health and the fact she couldn't see color. Her vision was sharp and clear, no glasses or lenses required, and all the eye doctors she went to said she had no ocular issues. A few told her this ridiculous possibility that she might gain her color vision when she encounters her soulmate. Willow, of course, had no reason to believe in this nonsense — it was the doctor being incompetent.

But here she was, seeing flames for the first time in full color. All the spectrum of it, every shade in the rainbow. She would have been overwhelmed had her mind been alert enough to register the meaning of that information, but at her current state? It was just... Pretty.

At least she'll die with a smile on her face.

IN CHARACTER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS . // 😶‍🌫️ FACE IN CLOUDS — is there something you're hiding from the people you love? if so, how urgent is it for them to hear it? what's holding you back from sharing it? (For Willow, maybe?)

Willow is quiet for a moment as she takes a long drag from her joint, exhaling it out softly in contemplation. "There are a lot of things I'm hiding from people closer to me. If only because I know that they will no longer be as close if they find out what I'm hiding. I suppose they are closer to a mask of myself rather than my true self, though... we're all made of masks, eventually." She begins,

"Secrets used to be something I traded in, you know. It was my currency. Secrets and information for the highest bidder. It's what I did best, and the information I passed on sometimes had devastating consequences. My information killed people." She confesses. "I had to kill on occasion, too. I have blood on my hands that will never wash off. It haunts me every once in a while, out of nowhere. It can be a voice or a sight, the smell of gunpowder in the air or blood on the floor. The ringing of a gun being shot, a trigger being pulled." She rubs her hands together.

"Maybe it's just telling someone I don't really have a voice is what frightens me. To expose all my voices are borrowed. That I can't speak, and reveal to them the freak that I am. My birth name isn't even Willow Beckett." She lets out a small chuckle.

"My entire existence is pretend. In a way, I guess it's why I never really bring anyone too close. Nobody is trustworthy. Nobody really bothers to know, too. Maybe I've just grown so used to thinking I need to survive this life alone, I don't know."
