There is something so satisfying about being at work, and listening someone sing Stand Out and you join in (with ENTHUSIASM) and they sing along with you.
Then accuse you of making their life into a musical.
So I just sang I2I at them.

Notes for adapting The non-existent knight.
1. Calvino wrote with humour. The humour comes from depicting what conceivably heavy and horrible battle field into lighthearted, benign gestures. And most interestingly, he encourages us to look into the ridiculous details of battle, coughing aroused by the dust and smoke is the beginning of a battle, the geometric and physical analysis of how impossible is it to hit the targeted enemy. How serious the young soldier is with his ambition to revenge for his father and how often he ends up fighting the wrong and irrelevant person... Every time when there’s a chance of life and death moment, and Calvino would drop the suspension by a little joke...
How can that be reflected on stage? It reminds me the beginning of Gecko’s early work ‘the Arab and Jew’, epical music followed by a sudden drop or cut, turning something big into a ridicule. And the clown show I saw this summer: War Pig, how they fluently and seamlessly shift between heavy and light through repeating the same melody in a different way, how something is pushed into extreme and eventually becomes laughable.
2. In Calvino’s The Non-existent Knight, he also used lots of technic which reminds me of movie: zoom in, suspension, comment from outside, time shift...
I am really unskilled for transforming inner thoughts into stage work......My only imagination right now is to fix Agilulf into a sculptural gesture and let the narrator comment from third person point of view. But for Raimbaud, I feel this character is closer to us, less mysterious, more human. Should he transform into an old version of himself and comment on the youth version of him? Or he should simply use physicality to paint his emotions? Like repetitive gestures in different qualities?
3. How about scene change? Within one chapter, the army proceeds to different places, soldiers charge into different fields. What is the basic elements of design and how to physicalise the environment? Sound is easy to shift on stage, but set hard. I need a scenographer to work with me and discuss.
week 15
Late Note
Dear Work, I will be 20 minutes late this morning as I could not stop playing Lightsabers with my son.
