As a business coach, I have learned that many companies that take on freelancers have a no-compete contract. Under no circumstance do you sign a no-compete contract. Too freelance: is to be a sole proprietor acting on behalf of self to be hired to do a job as an independent in a field suited to your craft or talent. There is no amount of information that you could be stealing (unless you are a dr, scientist or engineer) that would benefit someone else... Highly regarded and protected information should draw some kind of red flag to the company you are going to do work for. Utmost and more important you need to question the position you are offered and think about how it is going to affect you if you leave. If this is how you make your money... you will be in no position to work in that type of environment anywhere else for possibly up to 5 years. I just recently turned down a situation where they insisted on a signature for a no-compete contract for a cosmetic ambassador role. Which would leave me not being able to do work else where in that industry for anyone else. I take pride in teaching and mentoring women who want to work independently. Being an entrepreneur means freelancing on your own terms... not a corporation that deems a contract.
