These CEOs are evil and I am not ashamed to say this
If you’re obsessing over work-life balance, your problem isn’t the hours—it’s the job, says Bupa’s CEO. And some of the world’s most powerfu
Reading this article filled me with so much disgust for all CEOs who proclaim work-life balance is a sin from their ivory towers.
Yes, I agree that ideally people should be in a career they enjoy. My father worked as a teacher in my church's youth program. He was paid spit compared to the other teachers. His pay couldn't even pay half the bills. Yet, he loved the kids and put in 1000%. He was the best teacher who consistently produced top results with kids who were deemed lost causes. When my dad died, the past and current students mourned him like a father and no teacher has come close to my dad since then.
But sorry, that's not the life I want for myself.
I don't want a job that doesn't financially reward me for my effort and pays me less than my lesser qualified peers.
Sorry, Mr Rich CEO that I don't love my job enough to make it my whole life. Most of us don't have the luxury of working a dream job. Most of us are trying to survive to support our families and prepare for the future.
Another problem is that these vile CEOs want their employees to act as if they are startup partners and not employees. It makes sense for someone who is working in a startup with equity to give their all to the job. But why the hell should a regular employee who is being robbed of benefits left and right be expected to slave over a company that will fire them to save a quick buck!!! I loved my old company and I loved my team. I was loyal. Yet, they had zero qualms firing me right after the labor day holiday last year and kicking me to the curb. My manager couldn't even give me a firm handshake when I bid him farewell. These effing companies will ruin your life in a second and they expect you to drop dead for them. When you suffer a heart attack from stress, the company won't be there to hold your hand. What about family life? What about having fun?
These CEOs make me sick. Screw them.
ok so you may not want to "perform labour" for the rest of your life or at least until you retire at 65 odd but maybe the kind of labour you don't want to do is one where you are subject to exploitation 40 hours a week otherwise you starve or end up homeless. maybe you would feel indifferent or actually like working if it meant getting paid a living wage and having the opportunity to do something you enjoy. you most likely wouldn't want to stay at home & not work if it meant that your individual abilities were properly taken into account and social housing was more widely available and you weren't just one or two wage payments away from being homeless or having to move back to your parents house.
"if it were that way then nobody would want to do the shitty jobs that need filling" the shitty jobs wouldn't be so shitty with more money a better chance at social mobility and a holistic approach to creating a supportive environment for people who actually work there
