The #Rowanator was thrilled (as were all the others) to meet you, @acousteau this past Friday, right around the corner from our house. He later wrote to express his thanks and tell you about his #PADI diving certification in #Belize (at 10 years old), also telling you that “…I aspire to do what you do in the future…” - this is one of those events you remember the rest of your life and who knows what kind of influence it could have on this young guy? He has never taken that kind of initiative before. His note brought tears to my eyes. My personal thanks go to you for engaging as you did with Rowan and all the kids (and adults), who were excited our corner of the world was on the tour. We are too disconnected and uneducated as humans when it comes to our waterways and the ocean, so any time this awareness can grow is so important. I missed it because I was at the #WorldOceanSummit for the launch of our #UrbanOcean initiative, but funny enough I had a quick moment to chat with @acousteau while there. I am glad that you both and your siblings are carrying forward the work of your grandfather. JYC inspired me as a child (@laurentballesta shared this same story at the summit) and I was so lucky to meet him and talk about his work in 1992. It has taken me awhile to get closer to the core of my love and work, but his inspiration (and now yours) pushes me, and now my son, on to make change and tell the stories that are important to the future of our ocean and the planet.
