En bref: Tamer Mamdouh - The Man that Saved the Tournament Media!!!
Oh bless him.... I've told you already about that bright young man, that not only handles transport - one of the most difficult roles there is on a major tournament, with picking up/dropping people at the airport, and organising Shuttles from and to the venue/hotel/plus if affinities.... He added to that duty taking care of SquashSite, plus tourist guide, and we onl had to ask, the answer would be yes. It allowed Karim and Engy Darwish to concentrate on the real troubles!!! He managed with his team to get Mr and Mrs David Campion's luggage, Sarah Kippax got her bag back just in time after it got lost at the airport. But as important (More?), he got the World's Trophey back! These achievements are NOTHING compared to facing the whole of the Ministries of Egypt to get SquashTV kit back!!! "It was not a day I had, it was a whole year!!!!" he joked upon his arrival at the hotel. "First, I had one hour in a taxi to get to the Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism. I stayed there for 2 hours. I eventually managed to get the paper that would release the Cameras kept in customs. But I then had to go to the Ministry of Finance, as I needed a letter from them too. "Unfortunately, the first paper didn't say exactly what it should have said, so I couldn't get the second one. After many, many many discussions, the Finances accepted the Fax for the new letter, as they initially wanted me to go back there. "That took 3 hours. "Then I went to the Airport, peak traffic time, that was about 2h. At the aiport, they asked for a proof that I was who I was, as in sent by Wadi Degla. After many many many discusssion, they accepted to be sent a fax. Trouble of that was that the fax office at the airport was now closed.... After a few difficult minutes, another fax was found. I still will have to go back there on Saturday morning with ALL the originals - not the fax only - to allow the kit to leave the country... "But that's not all. After all that, when I finally arrived at the hotel, it was now 11pm - I left at 11am - the security guards told me I couldn't get the two boxes in the hotel, that they would have to keep it outside, in a secure room.
"Well, I said, with the trouble I had getting those two boxes, I'm going to sleep ON THEM. So, if you don't let me through, I'm just going to another hotel, cause THOSE BOXES AREN'T LEAVING MY SIGHT!!!!!" And that my friend, is how you do things in Egypt....
