I’ve been a little busy with real life, so now that I’m back on if you wanna get something situated I’ll just throw it out there!
Another Hotan doodle! This time trying out a more proportionate, less cartoony style. Trying out some more shading in the form of airbrushing the drawing. Eventually I’d like to start hammering out the rough parts in these sketches and start making it look smoother, when I can find the time.
Anyways, here’s Hotan. He’s ditched the normal jacket and pants for something a little more close to home. Now you can really see his hairdo in all its glory.
If I put out an open starter would anyone be down to respond to it?

I think it came out pretty good considering I’ve legit never shaded anything before. The airbrush tool makes it 1000% smoother and less forced.
Anyways, here’s Hotan as a kid.
At this point in time, he’d already eaten the Kuso-Kuso no Mi and was pretty much already leading a bad life. It’s unknown what happened to his parents, but he was left orphaned at a young age and had to learn to fend for himself in the wilderness of Wano Country.
Many people called him the “Feral Child,” and disaster followed wherever Hotan went. Hotan was an unnaturally strong child who spent a lot of his time fighting for survival.
He carries around a bokken, a Japanese wooden training sword. Who would give a kid sharp objects or an actual sword? That’s irresponsible.
A little more on Hotan’s sword, The Wishing Pole!
- Made by a Wano swordsmith who everyone believed to have been cursed, absolutely no one bought his swords despite them being of extremely high quality material.
- Hotan, known for spitting in the face of fate and curses in the first place, uses the sword with extreme prejudice. The sword is aggressive, and will often nick or cut Hotan while he polishes it or does other mundane tasks. It’s basically Hotan’s rabid dog on a leash.
- Wielded two-handed, the sword is incredibly long, spanning almost the entirety of Hotan’s own body height. The sword is mostly used against other swordspersons in some strike of honor, since he himself prefers martial arts.
- The hilt is decorated ornately with three colors. Red, yellow and black. Running down the length of the hilt is a pink leaf.
