Worldwide Wednesday
So for @wakingwitchblr's #WWWorldwide Wednesday, I'm sharing photos of my practice. The 1st is a pic of me wearing an astrology shirt and a prayer bead bracelet and my testing out the Mulan spread I created last year. Each of these represents common aspects of my craft: everyday casual worship and divination for self examination.
I wore the shirt and bracelet in honor of Hermes, the Greek trickster god. Hermes has domain over a number of things, including travel, communication, shepherds, thieves, boundaries, dreams, psychopomps, messengers, and naturally astrology. He is well known for his playful demeanor and easy-going nature. Hermes is... always a god I've had a connection with. I detailed my story with him here and here. Nonetheless, here's the long and short of it: I'm devoted to him and he's been my patron for a long time. We're thick as thieves (pun intended 😉) and I trust him deeply. To tie this back into my practice, I like keeping pieces that represent him - along with my other deities, angels, and guides - on me on a daily basis. It's a quick and easy devotional act that doesn't take much energy. It allows me to feel close to and honor my gods on a low-key basis as I'm still in the broom closet to a lot of my family. I have a number of jewelry pieces, clothing, and other accessories that I associate with my spiritual team, both traditional (prayer beads) and modern (fandom pieces).
With the Mulan picture, it's also a nice modern twist on a long-time practice. Divination has been around for ages now. Tarot is one method of divination that dates back to Ancient Egypt. @underworldariel has a lovely thread on the history of tarot here. If there's any witchcraft title I'd take before anything else (besides magical girl and music witch), it'd be divination witch. This is one of the cornerstones of my practice. Divination is a tool that allows me to understand myself and the circumstances around me better, communicate with my team, and advise others on their situations. I adore it with my heart and soul. Something else I adore? Disney.
Thus, pop culture witch is yet another hat of mine. I've always been super into a variety of fandoms and popular trivia. Incorporating it into my craft keeps things fun, easy, and personal. The Reflections spread reflects that. Mulan was one of my favorite movies growing up and Reflections was a beautiful, moving song. One night, it popped in my head to create a spread for self-reflection after the tune. Next thing I know, I've pulled out my journal, arranged a spread that mimics a mirror, and written up what each placement means. It was sudden, but a great flash of creativity after a period of stagnancy.
Modern meets traditional - that's a phrase that describes a lot of my craft.
