Like, I don't think Ack is as problematic as much of the fandom thinks, though I agree, he's got some particular foibles and his fics are popcorn at best -
But if you're going to give him shit for a fic that handles E88 characters badly (i.e. gives the Nazis too much slack, etc), 'Taylor Hebert, Medhall Intern' isn't that fic. E88 are not the good guys in that fic and the moment Taylor finds out E88 runs Medhall, she turns on them and they try to kill her.
Ack does have a fic that humanizes the Nazi characters too much and glosses over their sins - but that fic isn't 'Taylor Hebert, Medhall Intern', it's 'The Slippery Slope' the one where Taylor gets radicalized into joining E88 and it spends all sorts of time showing how chill and awesome the Nazis are (from Taylor's POV and from their own). I think the fic's title and general concept and overall trajectory still makes it clear enough this isn't meant to be seen as a good thing, but the execution still ain't great and it's not showing us the Nazis doing bad things much yet which makes the execution worse.
So like, if you want to hold up an Ackfic as like, poor handling of Nazis, there's much better options than the one where even Purity doesn't get any slack from Ack (Medhall Intern).
And like, I make this post because I keep seeing people holding Medhall Intern up as if it's some super Pro-nazi fic and like, factually, no it fucking isn't?
Like, if you consider Ack sus, then you're gonna see all his fics as problematic, sure, but also, ffs, there's much, much worse stuff from the man to hold up. If you're going to call someone out or tar and feather them, at least do so accurately!
