His existence is a failed experiment which consisted in the integration of a genetically modified tapeworm inside the body of a comatose man. The purpose of this was to wake the patient out of his sleep, and then extract the parasite once it's work was done.
The tapeworm surely did wake up the body, but at the price of taking over its consciousness. The previous identity has been wiped out of its shell, replaced by the new guest who adapted in short time to the new body functions.
The family of the man was horrified to know their loved one was gone forever, while his semblance will keep inhabiting the planet under the control of a parasite. They tried to cope with this, bringing him back home, desperately attempting to awaken some memories of his past self. But you can't blow dust off things that you lost forever. And in the end, they just gave up, returning him to the lab.
The worm did not know the concept of a family. The worm didn't give importance to who it had around itself. And that broke them beyond repair, to the point they just moved out of the country on a given day, to try and forget something they know would torment them for eternity.
Returned to the lab, the specimen changed drastically in the span of a few weeks. It is speculated that due to the radiation that the parasite has been exposed to, the appearance of the host body went through ridiculous morphing stages.
Patches of pale skin daily turned green with occasional soft orange shades in certain parts, this went on until the previous skin tone was nowhere to be seen. His iris expanded to the point it covered the whole retina, fusing with it, and then slowly changing its hue from dark grey to soft yellow, as his pupil elongated similarly to a crocodile's. The hair on his scalp and the rest of his body shifted to a dark green, and many affirmed they could visually perceive indescribable purple tonalities around his frame.
Following these aesthetic evolutions was the drastic cease of eating. It is still unsure if it is correlated to the open cheek that proudly showcases the inside of his mouth, but one thing is certain: the worm did not want to abandon its old ways of living.
It took full control of the brain, abusing the neural network's electric signals to mutate further inside the body. Soon it hijacked all the bodily functions, everything was possible for it, as if it had access granted to a administrator account inside of its fleshy prison.
Over the span of 3 days, the specimen grew two new appendixes out of his lower back. Bright orange and shaped like the ends of a tie, those were the external extensions of the worm. The wide part functioning like a tapeworm's head, while the smaller end being the tail.
The out of the ordinary and sudden eloquence of the man towards the scientists keeping record of him raised doubts, yet many were hopeful in the possibility of it to start forming human connections. That soon would be disproven, when an intern reported to have been attacked by the subject.
The worm was sick of using the human mouth, only one state of mind it knew: mourning. Mourning of what it was before, mourning of the warm and wet guts of a human. That's the most it had in common with the family of the previous body owner, it was sick of being in control of what usually it would've exploited.
So once the opportunity presented itself, the worm acted. Tail wrapped all around the man's body like a boa snake, while the head dove deep inside his oral cavity, deeper and deeper...until it struck gold.
Luckily this doesn't seem to cause any physical damage to the poor harassed bearer of a meal, but it sure wasn't an appropriate behaviour for social settings.
Only god knows what fucked up practices they did on it to repress its nature. When the individual seemed somewhat stable, it was now time to release it into society, obviously under monitoring, with the hope of it integrating and developing an emotional luggage.
The specimen did not care about anything, his gaze was blank at whatever situation presented, yet he never complained about any task given. A perfect executor that would've followed orders out of sheer boredom, whose only flaw seemed to be the lack of interest in humanity, as long as he was not allowed to get advantage of their guts.
And it didn't take long for the worm to get bored of the simulated reality he was forced to live in, so one day...he just left. Someone left a door open, and it walked outside with no effort.
Wandering the streets of the real city, everything was so unpolished and organic compared to the lie they were trying to make him live at the facility. Again, not that he cared much, but there was some sort of preference he unknowingly cultivated.
The loud music behind a door piqued his interest, and he knocked to be let inside, just like how they taught him it's "polite" to do.
A human woman slammed the door open, on the other side there were bright lights and sound compositions he has never heard before.
"you look like a freak and we're short staffed, come inside"
Dragged inside, he pieced the various information of the place together: many humans moving at the rhythm of sound waves, colorful alcoholic beverages being chugged down with no mindfulness towards the liver, individuals engaging in acts of reciprocated affection...or, whatever kind of facet of affection was happening before his eyes... definitely some kind of bar.
"it's bdsm theme night, you need to wear it while serving costumers"
He didn't understand the first part, and he remained still as a column while the woman rummaged through the boxes of a a small, messy, barely lit room.
"When I find out who took the extra ropes..."
This seemed like a problem until she took account of the long appendixes the man had behind him. Soon those were tightly tied in knots around his body. And for the first time inside its new body, the parasite felt uncomfortable in the presence of a human, shaking like a leaf while part of itself was twisted and tied with no mercy by the strong grip of the clearly overworked woman.
That felt strangely nice. His own self tangled around something he didn't belong in, keeping in place debris of two creatures forever compromised and biologically violated by the hope of saving a life.
So that was his first job. No contract, strictly unregulated, the work giver didn't even know about his existence. But the clients sure did, and soon he became popular around them.
He was never quite fond of alcohol, but that night that's all what these people had inside of them. His 3 hour shift granted him 6 meals, none of them were conscious, he just stole whatever nutrient he found between servings. Although that blissful dream soon came to an end once the lab inquisition busted the place. Partypoopers, stopped the music and made their way into the crowd until they got ahold of him and dragged him out in the dark night.
The scientists at the head of its experiment were totally not pleased by the sudden fashion choice of the specimen. They tried to untie the worm and IF they were successful it was a matter of seconds for it to revert to its beloved bondage state. He did not get the significance of it, and he did not care. He just liked it around himself.
No satisfactions fruited out of any stage of the operation, but since the media was kept at the obscure of everything that happened, they had still a chance to get rid of the morbid creature they pieced together...if only the front door wasn't left open and unattended for a second time, which resulted in the worm leaving once again, this time to never be found.
