Anti Riverdale Master Post :)

A few things before I start this:1) yes I have made numerous posts about why Riverdale sucks but I just wanted to make an ultimate one because it’s gotten worse and the bs Kj Apa and Asheligh Murray pulled. 2) I am separating Riverdale and the Choni Fandom, Since majority of them only watch the show for Choni and already know the show is trash. So this isn’t directed at y’all.

Just to make things easier if you wanna see a certain thing I’m ranting about and skip the rest ahaha

1| The writing:

the first season was without a doubt the best season. The writing, while still cheesy and sub par, wasn’t terrible. Sure the characters were badly written (they made Archie out to be a scummy fuckboy) and a lot of the choices they made were bad, but it was simple. A murder mystery. But then we get into the second season and that was a serial killer + everyone is a Serpent now when in the first season they were seen as the worst thing + a musical episode. Many do say this is a terrible season. And now the third season... a cult + a board game that causes people to have seizures and death + a prison fight club. The writing is just ridiculous when it comes to what the seasons are about.

It’s not just the seasons that have the bad writing. I know this is rather dumb to point out but this pictures below… it’s the epitome of 30 / 40 year olds trying to relate and appeal to this generation. One) any girl who would use #GirlPower wouldn’t shame another girl; not even the most hypocrital. Two) the last time I saw someone use the word “ratchet” was in early 2014. This is why shows should never use internet slang in their shows. Because like memes they die quickly. Because seeing that now just looks cringey. Three) typing in text speak… not the biggest crime but still, the only time I see this type of text anymore is with middle aged Gen X’ers on social media.

I’m sure everyone is familiar with the lines that have came from this current season: “but Archie we’re endgame” / “we’re going to be a ship” — “EthelHead”. This is something a writer should never do: include ships / fantalk in a show. Hearing. Veronica say endgame and hearing Ethel and Betty talk about ships, it’s just cringey. I get the writers are trying to appeal the fan base, but this never works. It’s just... cringe.

Other noteable terrible lines/bad writing:

“Veronica/Betty” - “Archie/Jughead” said at the same time as each other (comedy gold omg)

“I beg your misogynistic pardon” said by Veronica to the Ghoulie (windows shutting down sound)

“Vughead kiss - future Bughead” said by Jughead in the spa (vomits uncontrollably)

“Get the hell out of my house before I kill you” said by Betty to Cheryl (cousin of the year guys; oml)

“You wanted fire - my specialty is ice” said by Veronica to Cheryl (just why)

“In case you haven’t noticed I’m a weirdo” - Jughead’s entire weird speech (I’m not writing it all. I don’t have the strength)

“It’s pretty savage, Jug” said by Archie to Jughead (you can hear me physically cringe and groan)

It’s rather obvious by now that none of the writers are young adults / have been out of school for well over a decade... or two. They write like your aunt Susan on Facebook - speaking in dead memes and terminology.

One Tree Hill... many will know it, some will not. It’s an iconic teen drama show that had terrific writing and characters (actually had well written teenagers). The reason I’m bringing up OTH is because these writers are stealing so much from OTH.

Dumb jock who’s much more than what people think (Nathan = Archie).

Main character writing about his teenage life and town (Lucas = Jughead).

Rich hbic with bad parents (Brooke = Veronica).

Blonde character with a secret brother who turns out to not really be her brother (Peyton = Betty).

I guess you can’t really say it’s stealing when these shows both are owned by The CW. But I can call it tacky and lazy; shows how much these writers lack originality :)

But let’s move to: over sexualisation.

It’s disgusting what these writers have done, most notably to Betty. Her mental illness is sexualised. They had her character strip online. They had her character strip in front of a group of grown men... this character is sixteen years old.

I still remember the uncomfortable camera shots on Veronica in early S1; just all over her body. I mean... have some self restraint.

But it’s not just the girls. It’s the guys. I swear these writers will look for any excuse to have Archie shirtless. Even if the scene doesn’t make any sense for him to be shirtless he’ll be shirtless. Because they know that if they do this the young fans will love it. It’s gross and hack tactic to rake in views.

I’m not sure where to put this so it’s going here.. I just need to talk about and laugh at this scene/shot...

Veronica with that scarf and sunglasses... Archie shirtless again (like dude... I get you’re happy showing off your body to the kids that watch the show, but you’re selling yourself at this point)... Jughead and Betty looking ridiculous with their arms up. And they’re driving that car, with no seatbelts on. Are there no law enforcement in this goddamn town?

Basically this shot alone shows just awful Season 3 is... just look at it ahaha.

2| The actors:

It’s no secret that the actors for this show are a) problematic b) not very good. Of course b) is an opinion and one I still stand strong on today; there are only a small handful of good actors in this show - the main four are not apart of that handful. But moving onto a); the problematic side.

If you’re not aware of what happened last month (December 2018) - Elijah Daniel, a guy who’s made a name for himself for trolling on Twitter and being blocked by celebrities and Trump, made a Tweet about Riverdale sucking and if the fans knew and didn’t care or just didn’t know. Putting aside the fact that this is an opinion, it’s not exactly world breaking news. Riverdale does suck and majority of the fans know this and admit this. But what Kj Apa did was childish. Tweeted Elijah calling him a “fucking idiot”. Not only was this childish, it shows just how he won’t last in the industry. Celebtries must have thick skin and be able to handle criticism.

But it didn’t end there. Ashleigh Murray decided to sub tweet him saying that she is recognised by the back of her head and that essentially he is nothing. Elijah then processeds to Tweet back at her calling her “sis”... you know the word majority of the people in fandoms use? Well she took that word and insinuated that Elijah is a racist for calling her that. And she kept going... for days. So now we have two actors who cannot handle criticism; who have giant egos; who race bait.

Also a quick little run down on Lili and Cole: queer baiting (L) / supporting straight wash (L&C) / questionable racism (L&C) / alleged abuse (C). Not need to make a full paragraph; it’s all been said numerous times. Also Kj Apa liked a disgusting fat shaming comment and snapped a misogynistic photo - he also couldn’t let the Elijah thing go so he liked a comment trashing Elijah... when he was out with friends partying (lol petty ass dirty mop bucket water).

Like I get it, they take pride in what they do. And that’s perfectly fine - great even. But to act like this show is as if god created it himself for all to enjoy, when it’s as generic a white pencil is ridiculous.

This isn’t a criticism to any of the actors directly more of one towards the shows, but it fits in here: literally 99% of the cast is skinny or muscled; walking models. This is supposed to be a high school in 2018/19 - it has such a superficial look. With all the faults Chilling Adventures of Sabrina had at least that show had realistic looking teenagers.

3| The characters:

Easy: they’re liked because they’re hot. There. Done. I don’t have to write out numerous paragraphs. Cya guys!..

No but seriously, they’re so ridiculously unlikable that they’re only tolerated and stanned is because they’re what society deems as hot.

—— Archie Andrews: he starts off as a fuckboy. He went from girl, to girl, to girl, in Season One. But after S1 that fuckboy side part died, thankfully. But let’s talk about Archie from the comics. Now while he had always been a somewhat questionable character, he was always been a good person. Riverdale’s Archie did not tell anyone about the gunshot he heard, while sleeping with his teacher.. yes yes it’s all done and over now. But still... Archie would have said what he heard. Archie Andrews from Riverdale does not come across as the all American sporty dude they want him to be. He just comes off as a douche.

—— Jughead Jones: Uggggghhhh. If Hot Topic and 2009 MySpace had a demon spawn child Jughead would be that child. He is the epitome of try hard edge lord. They try a little too hard with him; beanie, suspenders, his attitude. There’s having a too cool for school - edgy character and then there’s this monstrosity. Like, in S1 he was this loner who was an aspiring writer; writing about how dark and bad Riverdale is, but by the end of S2 he’s now the leader of a gang? Lol. They can’t even keep the character writing straight.

—— Veronica Lodge: I have to be honest.. I don’t really care about Veronica. Her scenes are either so ridiculously cringe, or black out enduring boredom. But from what I can remember: she’s nothing but a sexual object. Throughout this entire show she’s just having sex (all power to anyone who wants to bone 24/7; that’s not the issue) what’s the issue is that there’s nothing else of substance. I mean for Gods sake in 2x01, instead of sitting with Archie and having an emotional conversation about his father... she hops into shower with Archie, WHILE HE IS WASHING OFF HIS FATHERS BLOOD, and they have sex... her character is just boring, cringe, or sex. That’s it.

—— Betty Cooper: another ugh. Out of the main four she might be my least favourite. It probably has something to do with how she’s always in a ponytail (doesn’t look good). No but really; she’s just not a good person. I’m sorry. I mean threatening to leak Jason’s death video (her own cousin) - to Cheryl (again, her own cousin); when his death caused Cheryl to try and take her life? Her mental illness is also sexualised; she sexualised it herself with Jughead and I’m just????

These are the main four... like I said I am excluding Cheryl and Toni because they’re their own seperate fandom. But let’s talk about: Kevin Keller... his entire character has been devolved into him being gay. LGBT are more than just who they are born as. Give them actual storylines. Give them actual character. Don’t have it just be “I’m gay look at me”. What’s horrible is that the writer and creator of Riverdale is gay and he has such disrespect for his own community.

But speaking of LGBT; this is a good transition into:

4| The Queerbaiting

It is common knowledge that the LGBT audience is quite large and can make or break a show. And shows use this fact to their advantage. The CW does this with almost every show of theirs. But I have never seen a show so this the way Riverdale has.

—— From the very beginning they queer baited the kiss between Betty and Veronica. I every trailer it was there, as if showing that they’ll be an actual couple. When it reality it was a half second kiss that had zero impact on the show. But that didn’t stop the actors themselves queer baiting the kiss/pairing.

—— Choni.. I said I was distance this from this rant, but it’s relevant. They created Choni for views. It’s obvious. And they know many only watch for Choni so of course they’ll bait those shippers into thinking they’ll be a scene if they just wait. But are there any scenes? Nope. Because 1) they don’t write any. OR, 2) they cut them out.

—— The recent Archie and Joaquin kiss.. yes I have seen the scene and I understand the metaphor. But the way they cut the trailer to show the kiss and then Archie’s naked back - as if to lead on that they hook up... they knew what they were doing and they did it anyway. This is three years after they were initially called out for the Beronica queerbait. They didn’t learn; they don’t care.

This show wants to act like it’s a friend to the LGBT community but when in reality it’s not. They think if they just make every other character gay or bi, to make up for them straight washing Jughead, then it’ll be fine; that they’ll be seen as a progressive show and get away with not actually writing any scenes for them or give them any character.

5| The fans

Everyone knows that the fans are extremely young so I will try to be nice during this section. Riverdale fans come in five groups.

1) the young toxic ones.

2) the young decent ones.

3) mature ones.

4) hate watchers; those that can’t stop watching even though they hate it.

5) Choni shippers.

As you can guess it’s number one that is the massive issue. And they are the majority in this fandom. Because it can range from; ship wars (hating on writers and actors simply because they threaten their ship) - most notable; Vanessa getting hate because Toni and Jughead. And Shannon getting hate because of Ethel and Jughead. Notice the pattern? But it’s not just young Bughead shippers.

It’s also young Varchie shippers. When they queerbaited Archie and Joaquin in the trailers there was so much biohobia/homophobia coming from that fandom. I know not all are this ignorant, but the many give the fandom a bad look.

Criticism seems to be something Riverdale fans cannot seem to handle. If you even mutter a negative word about Riverdale they’ll act like you roundhouse kicked their nan.

The conclusion

This show is terrible. It is riddled with terrible writing that shouts middle aged individuals trying their hardest to appeal and act like they’re teenagers - or what they perceive to be teenagers. The show acts like an ally to the lgbt community but will happily treat like rubbish and exploit them. The cast is a large group of problematic people - two of which cannot handle criticism. The characters are awful. The fan base is toxic. I don’t know why this show exists... just watch One Tree Hill for a better version

Okay, so, a few things about this fucking shitshow that is Meet My Angel.

Angels shouldn't be scared of death.

"Where is G-d?" asks the man with a guardian angel.

What is he actually dying of? Why isn't he going to a doctor? Yes, he has AIDS and is taking medicine so he should obviously have a doctor. Where is that doctor?

Damnit, all of these actors are far better than this shows deserves.

The sound is SO BAD. Like, SO BAD. I swear they recorded it with their goddamn cellphone only the sound in tictoks is actually better than this.

Ugh preachy. SO PREACHY.

As a non-Christian man, I have NEVER understood that Christian relationship with G-d and I still don't, hoooo boy.

Also, why did he get this sick LITERALLY OVERNIGHT? He went from normal make-up to raccoon eyes in like an hour.
