I really really really like the idea of a story about hyper surveillance in a world with magic, where mind magic is super illegal unless you work for the government, never really by choice. And the main character just so happens to be a born telepath that really doesn’t want to become a cop but really can’t help that they feel or hear everyone’s fucking thoughts

whole thing at scollbow tower is great even tho it makes me want to key something

the way britta having the unique position of ‘guest who isnt an eligible bachie’ lets her see behind a bunch of old traditions in the tower

the poor scollbow kids not allowed to eat and being forced to serve all their food to their guests

the fact that part of the reason britta figures this out is bc she can draw from her own experiences in relative poverty (or taking a sharp turn from ‘very well off’ to ‘shop working class hidey hole shop)

how ready britta is to rip into collin but eventually realising he was working against centuries of tradition and it would be hard even if he hated it

What do you think would have happened if you hadn't?

It's hard to say... I mean it's possible I would have found my own way struggle bussing through New York. I'm pretty resilient. I don't want to completely write off myself at that time but when I think about the person he met, I was lost and hurt.

I was a person with a lot of big ideas (still am) but I didn't know where or how to focus that energy in any sort of productive way. Self doubt was a giant monster in my life and at that point I'd sort of resigned myself to what I had was good enough. There was a lot of bitterness boiling inside me and I didn't know how to heal it nor how to manage it most of the time...

I was also ready to leave on a dime. My youth was not a stable environment so I always had a plan b, there was an escape route in almost everything I did. Commitment to anything, was not a strong suit because that's how you got hurt.

Nikolas came in and shined a light on all the little cracks in me and helped me repair them. Helped me be stable and believe in myself, never overstepping in his role as cheerleader and confidant. I grew so much in getting to know him and loving him that considering a life without him, is hard to envision.

I think I would have found a way but it would have been a lot harder. I also doubt I wouldn't also lack in trust in others or confidence within myself throughout that hypothetical life.
