Development has slowed considerably as I’m currently struggling financially. This means I will have to set aside more time to make an income (how we are going to is another thing to sort out) and it will affect how much I am able to write. I know I do not give many updates about the development, but it is still in the works. This is a side project though, as I need to eat and this won’t get me paid, so it is not my priority half of the time.
I can barely afford rent or my medications at the moment and despite being disabled I do not gain anything in disability at the moment, though I’m going through this states paperwork to see if that would be beneficial to me at all.
This isn’t a hiatus, just a heads up, I still don’t have a set date for the release as I want it to have a couple chapters worth of content people can read through before releasing the demo, so I don’t know when it will be done. It will be done, just slower than originally anticipated.
I really really really like the idea of a story about hyper surveillance in a world with magic, where mind magic is super illegal unless you work for the government, never really by choice. And the main character just so happens to be a born telepath that really doesn’t want to become a cop but really can’t help that they feel or hear everyone’s fucking thoughts
Went to the satanic temple in Salem
Fun fact mcs best friend didn’t come out to them as bisexual until they both were 22
With the storytelling of the IF community I wonder how a dungeons and dragons game would look like
Today I went with my sister to see an author she looks up to, and some of the topics she discussed really made me think. One thing she mentioned was that for people who want to publish a book, sometimes it’s a good thing to have the mindset that no one will ever read it. Because when doing that, the author is truly only writing for themselves and I think that’s maybe something that could be taken into account in really any setting where you are creating a story.
From my personal standpoint, I’ve always been under the belief that when writing, you should always write for yourself. Writing strictly for an audience is impossible and frankly, damaging to the mindset of aspiring authors who think to be able to be successful, they have to write what other people want. It is impossible to meet the demands of everyone, and you shouldn’t try to. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for like fucked up media or shit, but seeing the constant demands within the interactive community, for a deadline, for a release, to change x to y because someone didn’t like that a character is written a certain way, I feel like a reminder is owed to a lot of authors that they should write for themselves first and foremost.
Writing is hard and it is time consuming. When you aren’t writing, you are thinking or planning or drafting or brainstorming with someone about your story to see if it works the way you see it in your head, and a lot of the time most writers barely get the free time to do that. It’s a long process, and I don’t like seeing people feel rushed by strangers on the internet to complete something. Personally, goading me to work on things causes me to slow down, it wouldn’t work in anyones favor, but I’ve been thankful enough that no one has demanded much from me. I can’t say the same for others in the community.
There are so many wonderful stories currently being created that we get the privilege to see the development of it in real time. And I’m excited to see the stories they want to write, to explore the worlds they’ve sprouted out of their beautiful big brains, but I understand the process is a long one. My father is an author, he has several published books. It took him three years to finish a book once, and most interactive novels are larger than your typical novel, some are longer than Greek epics.
This isn’t really in reference to anything recent, but more of what I’ve seen being a fan and a writer within the community, and it just makes me sad to see. I don’t like peoples stories being treated as simply something to give to others, like an item for consumerism. They should be recognized as works that showcase the authors talents.
That’s really all I wanted to say lol
I have made a twitter that is more for ramblings and writing things if anyone wants to take a gander. I need interesting mutuals.
