As a speaker I get like ten requests per week to speak for free and it makes me exhausted. It seems to be a trend to expect people to collect knowledge and then just share it for free. And so many speakers are not taking themselves serious enough to ask for payment. Sometimes my friends who work in the corporate world ask me to speak for free. They would never dream about doing that, even just for 30 min. I speak for free for organisations such as JCI that I have an emotional connection with, for small money for charities and for corporates there is a normal speaker fee involved. In case you wonder there is hours and hours of preparation involved in every speaking gig, you don't just go there without preparation. I also do lots of research to stay on top of thing in the digital world. If you go to an event without being prepared it's not what I consider a professional speaker. Thoughts? #publicspeaking #exposureisnotpayment #wouldyouworkforfree?? #plummersdontworkforfree
