I love this line in Woundedly because at this point, Tim still doesn’t know what Alfred’s role is in the Wayne Pack. Tim has no idea that Alfred is Bruce’s dad.

In the Bad Puppy universe, Alfred had been mated to Martha and Thomas Wayne, though he never married them. Thomas and Martha were together first and then Alfred ended up joining their matehood and their pack later on, but they kept the relationship a secret from the public. Bruce grew up with Alfred as a second father. So after Thomas and Martha were killed it was only natural for Alfred to officially adopt him and to be legally seen as his father.

(At some point I really need to make a post about the differences between mating and marrying in this universe and what that looks like socially, instinctively, and legally)

Tim doesn’t even know Alfred’s last name, let alone what he’s doing in Wayne Manor. It never got out that Alfred had been mated with Thomas and Martha, so the public just saw the adoption as an act of good-heartedness. Even though the adoption is public record, it’s not really been discussed since Bruce became an adult.

Jack and Janet are so self-centered that it’s possible they don’t even know that a mere butler adopted The Bruce Wayne, and even if they’re aware, they wouldn’t have talked about it in front of Tim.

I’m not sure when, but at some point Tim is going to find out that Alfred is Bruce’s daddy and he’s gonna panic. It only further proves the idea that there’s someone out there killing mommies because Bruce, Dick, and Jason’s moms are all dead. The Waynes are going to have to convince Tim that no Alfred did not go out and kill all the mommies, and yes your Mommy is perfectly safe (unfortunately), no one will kill her. Alfred would never hurt any of us, you’re safe here.

Alfred is currently Tim’s least favorite person, he doesn’t need anything else counted against him lol

I want you guys to know that I agonized over this one line in chapter 19 of Woundedly debating if I should keep it in the chapter or not.

I was worried it wouldn’t fit The Mood of the rest of the chapter. My problem with attempting to write humorous things is that I get way too insecure that it’s actually unfunny and fear that it’ll take away from the story, so I usually cut out any attempts at humor from my fics.

But I really liked this line so I ended up asking a friend about it and they thought it was cute so I decided to keep it in.

It’s made me so happy seeing some comments mentioning that you guys have enjoyed this line as well :)

This whole time I had been planning for Woundedly to be set over the span of 3 days. As of chapter 11 we are on the second day of the fic.

What do you guys think about me potentially adding a day? So that Woundedly would take place over 4 days total. That would get us up to day 9 of Tim staying with the Waynes.

If I add another day then Woundedly would likely end up being closer to 25 chapters total rather than 18. It would take me another couple months to finish up since I’ve been posting roughly one chapter a week.

The end of day 7 is when we hit the most intense plot points for Tim, so then days 8 and 9 would be far more hopeful and comforting. I’m just worried that I won’t be able to provide a satisfying ending to the story in only one day of his life after everything that’s happened to him recently. If I add a day 9, it would be to provide fluff and bonding experiences for Tim and the rest of the Wayne pack.

So I guess my question is, would you guys rather this story be done quicker and it leans towards a more hopeful ending, or to be longer and have a happier, fluffier ending? I’m so stuck on what to do. I don’t want this story to feel too drawn out or boring, but I also want to give you guys the best ending that I can.

I think one of the reasons why it's so interesting to imagine slightly-older-Timmy and Babian interacting is because it would kind of force Timmy to realize how unfair and wrong the abuse he faced was. He often justifies it in his inner monologue by saying he is A Big Boy and Not A Nestling, therefore He Should've Known Better. Meeting a tiny little child, though? I think Timmy would take one look at baby Damian and be sooooo protective over him. Like surely this puppy is too young to know better!! They can't be mean too him! Oh god that can't be how Jason and Dickie and Bruce felt about him. Is this how Jason and Dickie and Bruce felt about him??

I completely agree! Tim has never met a baby or a toddler before, and so it’s hard for him to imagine how little he was when his parents started abusing him. Janet taught Tim that he was supposed to be a big boy, that he had to be mature and take accountability for his ‘naughty’ behavior. But seeing Babian, it would be the first time that Tim could really comprehend how young he was. Tim can’t imagine how Babian could be expected to act like big boy when he’s so little. Tim was that small once, and his parents would hit him. He can’t imagine Dami ever deserving to be hit.

Even after interacting with Babian, Tim would still struggle with the belief that Dick, Jason, and Damian are inherently good, and Tim is inherently bad, and that’s why he deserved to be hit, but seeing how innocent Dami is would help put some doubt to those beliefs. Tim would see Damian doing normal childhood behaviors, things that Tim’s parents taught him were naughty, and Tim just would not be able to imagine Damian deserving being hurt over it. Tim sees Dami throwing a tantrum, and he knows that such actions are naughty, and yet he still doesn’t want to see Damian be hurt. Tim was taught that being naughty requires punishment, and yet meeting baby Damian makes Tim question it. It might be a punishable offense in itself, but Tim wants to protect Babian.

It’s a lot harder for him to justify his parents’ abuse when he finally comprehends how little he was (and still is). It’s easier for him to justify his own abuse because Dick and Jason are older than him and ‘know better’. He thinks the omegas are better than him, that they’re big kids and have learned better already. But when he meets an actual nestling, he doesn’t have any of those excuses. Damian isn’t bigger or older than him, he truly doesn’t know better, and yet he still doesn’t deserve to be hit.

Tim would see Damian do something ‘naughty’ and he has that horrific moment where he’s instinctively waiting for Bruce to hit the baby, and though Tim knows that’s what’s ’supposed’ to happen, he doesn’t want it to. He doesn’t want Damian to be hurt, even if he ‘deserves’ it. I agree, it would be the first time that Tim can begin to understand how the rest of the Waynes felt when they first met him. They all saw him as this vulnerable and helpless, uncomprehending how anyone could dare lay a hand on him. Tim knows by now, logically, that Bruce will never hurt any of them, and yet the fear is still ingrained in him. Tim is so incredibly protective of Babian because he never wants him to have that same terror he once did.

For chapter 16 of Woundedly I can’t decide what I want Bruce to have done after Tim passed out. Bruce will stay in the room throughout the night, but I’m not sure if I want him to either stay acting as a pillow to Tim and hold him all night, to have laid Tim down in the nest and sat beside him like a protective alpha, or left Tim in the nest while he worked on his laptop at his desk.

Bruce has been wanting Timmy snuggles this entire time, but he also knows how scary it might be for Tim to wake up with a daddy beside him. I can’t decide which Tim will react the best to, realizing Bruce held him all night and never hurt him once, or that Bruce had the ‘restraint’ to put him down without hurting him.

Tim and Bruce are going to talk one-on-one in chapter 16, I’m just not sure how I want the conversation to start— with Bruce already holding Tim, right at his side, or on the other side of the room.

At over 17k words, chapter 15 of Woundedly is posted! This is officially the turning point for the entire story. I can’t wait to hear what you guys think :)

Tim is six years old, but he is developmentally younger than his age in my Bad Puppy series. Due to the abuse, neglect, and isolation, Tim is not meeting all of his social emotional developmental milestones. He never learned how to self-soothe or cope with his emotions in a healthy way, which is part of why he cries a lot and has self-destructive behaviors (like biting himself). I write him like this on purpose because trauma can heavily impact development.

When Tim is extremely upset, he tends to regress even younger, which also contributes to his accidents. He may be six years old but he has habits more in line with the way a two, three, or four year old may act, which is directly because of the horrific way his parents have treated him.

Before Dick and Jason, Tim had never been around other kids before. The only reason he knows that other kids don’t chew on their fingers and depend on teddy bears is because his parents punish him for it, but he doesn’t know what else to do. These are the only ways that he has learned how to survive.

A big part of why he has accidents is because of the sexual abuse. Even if he didn’t have nightmares, he would still struggle with bed-wetting.

Tim will learn more healthy coping skills as he lives with the Waynes, but he’s always going to struggle more with self-regulation than Dick and Jason will.

Though I’ve never actually stated within the series itself, I am writing Tim to be neurodivergent, which goes along with his sensory needs. Tim is already a very oral child, always needing something to chew or suck on, which is partly because of his neurodivergence and partly because he never learned any other way to calm down. Chewing on his fingers is one of the only ways he can self-soothe, even if it’s a more ‘babyish’ habit.

With the malnutrition, Tim is small for his age. He could easily pass as a four or five year old with his stature and behaviors. It’s not his fault, but he is behind in a lot of developmental aspects. A lot of commenters assume Tim is younger than he is, which makes complete sense. I am not writing him to be the most average six year old. He is still very smart, and we’ll see more of that once Bruce starts getting him to see a therapist and finds a homeschool teacher for him. Tim can be a very smart boy who still cries a lot.

I just want to make it clear that I am aware that Tim comes across as a much younger child than he is, and it is very much on purpose. Just because he’s six doesn’t mean he can’t regress younger as a trauma response.

A big reason why I chose Tim specifically to be 6 years old instead of any younger is because I wanted multiple years of memories for him to go off of. Most little kids don’t have much long term memory quite yet but in the comics Tim could remember meeting Dick at 3 years old, so I am going off of the idea that he can remember things from 3 years old onward. That means in my Bad Puppy series Tim has 3 years of memories to go off of. He’s 6 years old, but he only remembers 3 of those years. All the abuse he has described has only happened within the span of 3 years. He doesn’t remember any of the things his parents did to him before that.

As he grows older a lot of the memories will fade, definitely not all of them, but it won’t always feel so fresh.

This is going to be the turning point of the whole story.
