Agency

The most immediate social structure that increase my sense of agency is my school. My education is a big factor in how i am formed and structured in society, it also helped me shape my values and worldviews. My family is also a big part in this since my values and ideals are also greatly influenced by them.

I think for me, society constrains me in being agentic because as a student right now, it is difficult for me to find ways in order to have an influence in society, and most students rally or spread awareness in order to do so. I believe members of society have a negative connotation on rallying and people who spread awareness and those who deem as “woke” and this disables people in doing so. Some parts in society also bash and spread hate speech to these people through harsh comments such as “studyante lang kayo, mag aral nalang kayo”, “wala pa kayong alam sa buhay”, “mga elitistang mga bata”, and other negative comments also affect these people who tries to exercise their agency.

I believe i lack social capital right now because of the negative view on “millennials” and the generation z in society.

I believe through age and through experience, i am able to put myself into society not only as a student but also as a member of society.

My education and family background boost my self esteem because I believe that the values that the Ateneo has taught me are important values and my family backs these up.
