i think the main thing i can offer hockey fandom is just making everything more canadian, so i'm writing... i guess we could call it a(nother) Toronto AU, where mcmattdrai all work for a big five Canadian bank on Bay Street. Connor's the VP of Asset Management, Leon's the ED of Data and Analytics, and Matthew is the Senior Government Relations Manager.

i was thinking about, like, who would Connor McDavid be if he was CONNOR MCDAVID but in the banking sector. I guess kind of like that post about AUs, how there was the comment about a successful AU being able to show characterization, so just trying to see if I can put them in completely different setting and filter their very hockey-specific strengths into that environment. But then I've also got them playing beer league hockey fully just to make fun of them.

So here's some of that:

Connor’s hockey team was made up of senior management level finance dudes. They all had great equipment and that was about it. Connor could only stick handle if he was standing completely still. Ryan could skate forwards, but not backwards; Leon could barely skate at all. Zach was okay in the corners but he couldn’t decide if he wanted to play righty or lefty, and kept changing sticks mid-game and blaming the curve for his puck luck. Darnell wanted to do crossovers every single time he moved in any direction, and he kept tripping himself on his own skates. They were, collectively, the most competitive group of incompetents that Coach Taylor Hall had ever had the misfortune of being paid six figures to coach once a week.  “I fucking hate you guys,” Coach Taylor said, covering his face with both hands. Leon had crashed into Ryan and managed to take Zach down as well, and now they were stuck in a tangle of sticks and elbows. This had happened after the other team had scored.Darnell went over to try to pull Leon up, and accidentally got taken out at the knees by a flailing Zach. Their opponents were already back on their own side, waiting for someone from Connor’s team to join them for the next face off at center. Connor had only just made it over to the rest of his team and needed to catch a breather before skating back to center. He kept getting distracted thinking about how the game might go and forgetting to actually play. “I’m going to help by watching,” Connor stated as he gasped for breath. He knew he wasn’t going that fast on the treadmill but was his cardio really this bad?  “My head,” Ryan yelped as Leon lost his balance and threw an elbow. “I can’t believe we’re fucking losing,” Zach said. He’d extricated himself and was using the extra space to smash his stick against the ice in frustration. “This is why we need to practice between games,” Coach Taylor yelled.

one of my closest friends is named emma!  we became friends during middle school but her dad got a job in cape cod during 8th grade, so she moved, but came back to my school as a boarding student this year.  she’s staying to graduate with us next year.  i’m so blessed to have her as a friend.  she’s the coolest, funniest, and awesomest emma that i know.  she also has some crazy curly hair that’s gorgeous yet has a mind of its own
