some thoughts after reading Lohen's stuff (yet again):
reading his character story kinda sets me off.
what do you mean this perfect, orderly lifestyle his parents believed in could've resulted in Lohen's death? like... why would you make weapons, transport weapons, and not know how to or not use the freaking weapon? i'm so disappointed in his parents... (okay maybe not that much but still)
i understand why they do it- they're ordinary civilians, practicing their trade, honoring their religion, but bro. at least hire a mercenary or something when transporting goods? weapons? its just mind-boggling to me, because when someone gets used to a carefree, no harm life, I get it- no need for guards and stuff.
but each time I read it, I cringe so bad. why? why would you risk your kid, then instead of taking accountability after you get a second chance with your kid, you reject self-defense even more and go to all lengths to make sure said kid will never leave the house again?? (sure this didn't really happen but it sure felt like it)
like no wonder why Lohen turned out this way... i'm so glad Adorno "took him under his wing", even if it was due to "keeping a close eye on him".
then, i'm super proud of Lohen, taking the risk to return with the two Hilichurl Arrowheads (weathered arrowheads mention!) he'd retrieved as trophies from his late night fight/encounter. slowly becoming the person he is today, thankfully with Cyrus and Adorno's help.
i find it funny how he gets bored from the Adventurer's Guild. i'm glad he ended up joining the Knights of Favonius despite his parents' expectations.
and then it turns back to his parents "comforting each other". that pisses me off. again. what about your son? comforting your actual freaking son??? instead of adapting to what he needed, listening to the way he wanted to grow, they always thought they knew better. sure, kids are kids, kinda wild, but wow... it surprises me how relatable this story is, hehe ૮(ᵕ—ᴗ—)ა
Lohen receiving closure behind the guy who kidnapped him.
"he's already dead."
i love how Adorno knows that if he'd told Lohen that the man was still alive, he would've gone for revenge. learning that the waste of space had done the deed himself wasn't enough for Lohen- he urged to know who did it. who'd encouraged the guy to die?
and it had to be the one guy who'd never do such a thing: the Knight of Boreas - Varka.
i laugh thinking about it. Varka? how...? why...? i mean, it's Varka. the kidnapper must've been super guilty or something, because i don't think Varka would do such a thing, as i mentioned earlier.
but who knows? i could be wrong.
and Lohen was curious too. ambushing Varka on his first meeting. what's the Grand Master like? how will he do against this? or that?
what the hell, Lohen?
all for Varka to subdue him and toss him into solitary confinement. was Klee in there too? we'll never know. she probably wasn't even born yet (not too sure about timelines)
then, this guy, this absolute mountain of a man, so easily trusts Lohen when he approaches him after days of solitary confinement with a bottle of Varka's favorite wine- Dandelion Wine- saying it was his way of apologizing.
like... Varka. Varka. why? so many questions...
Lohen was just in solitary confinement. how did he even know Varka's favorite wine? they'd just met! then, he doesn't even stop and ask how Lohen got his hands... on some wine. right after solitary confinement. so...
what the hell, Varka?
anyways, that aside, Varka drinks the wine, because it's his favorite and Lohen would never, ever spike it.
Lohen spiked it.
the second Varka drank the wine, he felt dizzy. Varka remembers Adorno's warning - i mean, words- and begins to take Lohen seriously, righting himself and defying the dizziness as Lohen watched in surprise, pretty much changing the course of his life (or setting it in stone).
i'll stop rambling here because this was supposed to be short and sweet, but i just love how their connections develop over time. how Lohen tries to save Adorno in his own way, how Lohen tries to brute force his life until he learns to trust Varka- and that's quite the achievement... not just anyone can gain Lohen's trust.
i kinda want to make a post just talking about how Varka and Lohen's silly dynamic grows over time. might plan one! you can tell how Hoyo really treats them as parallels despite the contrasts in their characters.
i mean, there's the whole Lupus Majoris and Lepus Miles thing, how the hare wants to outdo the wolf (literally Lohen's first goal on the "list"), how Varka makes Lohen stronger, wiser, better. for himself, not for anyone else.
it's really interesting. this post was supposed to be me raging about Lohen's parents, but in the end, it's also their first time being adults, being parents. it's hard, and they really tried to protect Lohen - it just wasn't the right decision. good intentions, bad execution. i hope Lohen doesn't carry that weight in his heart, but if he does, it's completely valid.
i'm also really happy he had people like Cyrus and Adorno come into his life and instead of suppressing him, they adapted with him, embracing the person he was to become. sure, it might've been to their benefit if we really think about it (who'd say no to a really strong and capable fighter) but they also took the time to guide Lohen, something that Lohen desperately needed, in my opinion.
anyways, that's the end of this ramble, thanks for sticking with me! i'll get back to posting about Lohen's materials if no other thoughts or ideas come up, hehe ૮(˶• ༝ •˶)ა ♡
