A part of me is convinced that Rick and Morty do this from time to time.

I LIVE by the head canon that Morty’s up to date with Rick’s arrest because there’s no way in HELL the Galactic Federation would do all that crap in the finale and NOT talk about Rick’s arrest on the news for HOURS after it happens. Whatever they decide to go with on the show next season THIS is the canon for my blog.
The way I see it is that the family turned on their TV when they got home to see what was happening elsewhere and instead find a newscast with RICK SANCHEZ ARRESTED in big bold letters somewhere on the screen. The room was thick and heavy after that. Jerry merely blinked, Beth cried, Summer shook her head in disbelief and Morty stared.
A couple hours later he finally went to his bedroom for the night, it had been a long day and he was exhausted. There was a voicemail waiting for him on his cell phone. A voicemail from Rick. The voicemail was calm and simple, almost like Rick was picking something up from the store instead of being locked up somewhere.
Rick told him he’d bring home ice cream when he was done with jail.
Morty fell asleep smiling a little that night.
