In the style of danganronpa proper I have decided to set up my fanfic of mutual killing in the prologue - six chapters - epilogue format but I'm splitting them up into parts so they're not that horrendously long. Im on chapter 4 which is the start of chapter 1 oh god what have I done what have I gotten myself into
Congrats on starting your own dangan fic!!! And holy shit, you just set yourself up into a long run. Dividing it into chapters is a smart move since there’s a LOT that happens in one chapter that if you cram it into a oneshot, it’ll be ridiculously long. It’s also easier to track your progress when you split it into reasonably long parts. I wish you the best of motivation and hope that you see through this till the end. Write on!
I'm thinking about writing my own danganfic starring a bunch of new people set in Hope's Peak Academy. But I'm not sure if my kids are, uh, diverse enough? And I'd like your opinion. I got: lucky student, heir, needlecrafter, markswoman, golfer, "survivor", statistician, witch, painter, composer, gardener, ???, fisherman, triathlete, linguist, astrologer. The lucky student is a girl and the protag, and the heir is Threegami. The survivor is lying about her talent, she's actually something else.
Threegami is there which makes your danganfic better than dr3 already.
I’m loving the “survivor” plot twist. I like your set of talents so far unless you have some you’re not that confident about. I mean, there’s a lot of talents we can cover so just pick your favorites and have fun! Just to spice things up, I personally would like to add a talent that’s underappreciated or something you won’t normally consider as a talent.
Like say for example, ultimate collector. Sure it sounds like that person would be useless in a killing game but if you think about it, to become the ultimate collector you’d got to have all sorts of skills such as being knowledgeable and resourceful.
Or how about an oddly specific talent? Like say ultimate window breaker (I was thinking of ultimate breaking and entering but this happened)? Or why not be even more specific? Like ultimate transom window breaker. I’m sure you can come up with better than mine. It’s a nice thinking exercise nevertheless.
Anyways, good luck on your fic! Write on!
Ridiculous question, but can I have advice for writing Gundam's character? If that's okay?
Let out your inner dorkness darkness.
Does it sound like something a dark lord would say? No? Then add some more dark arts. Also don’t use ordinary names for anything since it is not a language he is familiar with. Are you saying he overslept? Fool! A dark lord never sleeps! Surely demons have raided his bedchamber and taken him hostage in their realm. He fought valiantly against them and although he may have overstayed his welcome, naturally he had won the battle and returned to this mortal realm for no creature holds power over the lord of darkness, Gundam Tanaka!
Do not forget his pact with the gods who take the form of this world’s creatures. To incite the fury of the dark lord is to invite the wrath of his whole kingdom and his armies of gods! Only a foolish mortal with a death wish would make the callous mistake of temporal ignorance of their formidable existence. Truly the dark lord pities you for such a short life you’d live. But fear not for despite the evil coursing through his veins, he is a higher being capable of mercy.
The Lord of Darkness challenges you to write him. Be grateful selected mortal for he would not propose such a great trial to anyone. You have heard it yourself. The calling of the dark arts. You may be an amateur in your current form but the gods have spoken with him and he knows that with dedication, you too could be worthy of writing the tales of the the Great Forbidden One.
Hey there! I just wanna say, I've been following your prompts for a long time. I love your work! I finally got around to making a tumblr of my own, haha~ I'm pretty new to having a blog, but I've been writing and RPing for a long time! I was wondering if you had any recommendations for getting your name out there for prompt requests and stuff. I'd love to write anything surrounding Komaru since I think I'm most comfortable writing her. How did you get your blog out there?
Hiya hello, stalker! Hahaha I’m actually so flattered that I don’t know how to react except by being awkward. It’s so nice to meet you! It’s always fun to get to know my readers and I’m so happy that you decided to speak up! AND YOUR REASON FOR DOING SO JUST MAKES ME HAPPIER I’M SCREAMING
I’ve been asked this before and there’s really no easy way of getting known. Here’s some tips that you probably already know. However, the fastest way of getting known is through accepting prompts, general prompts that include going outside of your comfort zones sometimes. This might not apply to you since you might favor doing just the Komaru ones but if you really want to get out there, you have to be open-minded.
Also, I write a lot fast. Meaning I dish out constant content. I’d post almost everyday and when the episodes aired I’d post 2-5 of them on the following night. I was there to comfort people or drag them deeper in despair so I just lucked out with timing. I suggest you do something similar at your own pace to. Perhaps post twice per week? Like one would be scheduled and the other is posted on a random day just for fun and for something to look forward to.
Which is your priority? Having fun with your muse or getting a larger base of readers? Because you can always write for Komaru (like how 40% of my total prompts are for my OTPs hahaha indulge yourself yo) but if you want to get known then I suggest widening to horizons. But only if you want to.
It’s cool if you just want to write with Komaru too. Sure you won’t have as many readers but the few you’ll get are the best ones. They’ll probably be the nicest people and if you just talk to them you’ll find them to be the greatest of friends. At least that’s what I happened to me when I started with the very small fanbase of Naekusaba (shoutout to my awesome first readers!)
So just do what you feel like doing. Write for fun and for your enjoyment and the readers will come later. Much much later hahaha. Honestly the fandom’s interest for the HPA characters have died since dr3 ended but the few of us stuck here holding on to them are the most loyal and guaranteed frequent readers.
Anyways, it’s normal to start small and to feel like you’re not getting enough feedback despite working your hardest. That’s just how it is especially here since tumblr isn’t exactly the best writing venue. But if you work hard towards your goal, it’s possible. It definitely is. I believe in you. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to talk to me again. I’m always down to helping other writers. I got your back, yo. WRITE ON!
hey mom just wondering how much you wrote for us like I know you wrote a crapton but like what's the prompt count so far? and if you know what's the word count cause I just want to imagine what's it like
Woah, last year was such a wild ride. I felt like Hamilton’s Non-Stop was my jam ya know? Anyways, let me get the numbers:
191,119 words from 18 long-form oneshots in the span of 2 months!! this was during my break, right before I started my masters
211,208 words from 273 prompts not counting the shitposts that weren’t prompts (e.g. future foundation underwear designs, how the sdr2 kids take their exams, etc.)
total of 402,327 words in just one year which is more than everything that I’ve ever written for all the other fandoms combined
Based on this “how long is that fic really?” post I guess I’ve written a bunch of books for free in the name of danganronpa and I’ve lost control over my life
On a side note, here’s some encouraging facts:
I haven’t written any fanfics 2 years prior due to depression and I honestly thought that I would never find the will to do what I love and write again
guess I thought wrong because look at this mighty comeback (bless my friend for inspiring me and all the readers who kept my momentum going)
It’s never too late to pick up writing again
the whole prompt thing wasn’t a planned thing (bless that anon)
this wasn’t supposed to be a writing blog and I was barely hitting two digits at notes back then
It’s okay to start from scratch and be small at first
slowly, carefully, eventually the numbers rose
until I became the problematic fanfic mom
even though I was a nobody at first
and I believe that anyone can become somebody too
it just takes a long while, a lot of effort, and a lot of patience
but I believe in you
Just like fanfics, we’re works in progress.
Write! Write! Write on!
Fanfic mom I have a great idea for a DR AU fanfic and also a sequel to DR AU fanfic but I can't make the words go what do I do
PUNCH THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR KEYBOARD
Ahem. What medium do you prefer? Sometimes staring at a blank white space has the effect of exacerbating mental blankness so what I usually do is I write on brown or gray lineless paper. It feels like there’s less pressure to get it right the first time that way. If you prefer typing then there are similar programs. I used to type on gdocs with dark reader on and it’s fun and much more relaxing trust me.
Just write whatever and edit like xxx times! Sure the first draft looks like shit and it’s nowhere near what you have perfectly pictured in your head but at least you’ve written something! As long as it’s not a blank page, it’ll be easier to write and edit from there. Good luck, friend!
