How bout Lance is too cute and Shiro and Keith can't handle It? Is that ok for a Drabble?
That’s vague enough that I can basically do whatever I want right,,, bc i made this into a mermaid thing. thanks
The ocean, in all of it’s vast majesty and ever changing nature, could be quite boring on even the better days, living in its depths. Their pod was far enough from the shallows that it was officially a hassle to visit the tide pools on the shore, or people watch from a safe, rocky outcropping, though close enough that the open ocean and its mysteries were far too distant to even think of exploring. Crossing the open, unsheltered blue wasteland between the two worlds was a journey they didn’t make looking for fun. So they had to make do.
Lance, personally, enjoyed digging through the sand for oysters (for both snacking and looting purposes), hunting small fish, destroying feeding frenzy formations and then being saved from angry dolphins out for his head. His excuse, every time, was that he was a lionfish, and he was meant to disrupt and inconvenience reef life. The truth was that, like each other them, he was just. that. bored.
Keith and Shiro both sympathized, of course, though they found their entertainment through a very different outlet. One that involved their invasive, venomous little friend.
The thing about lionfish, or at least their merfolk counterparts, was that their fins generally remained smoothed down and inactive, in order to convenience every day interaction. When spooked, though, the fins and prongs flared out hilariously large, and usually left the mer, Lance specifically, looking absolutely ridiculous.
Which meant, of course, Keith and Shiro loved causing this reaction, whenever the chance arose.
This time, it’d been Keith, leaping out from behind a large grouping of coral and screeching at the top of his lungs, sending Lance screaming and puffing up as he darted back, every prong on his body flaring outward until he looked like the unfortunate victim of a harpoon accident.
“Keith, what the hell!” He yelled, glaring, the expression ineffective due largely to his dozens of fins and puffy red cheeks.
He didn’t answer, too busy laughing at the site his boyfriend made. Shiro wasn’t fairing much better.
“Stop laughing!” He demanded.
“I can’t!” Keith claimed, still cackling even as he swam up closer, tremendously cautious of the tips of the fins, “Look at how ridiculous you look!”
“Guys,” Shiro chuckled, swimming a little closer to push Keith away, so that Lance wouldn’t actually accidentally stab him - though his prongs were already going down, “Come on-”
“You know you were laughing at him, too,” Keith grinned. Lance crossed his arms over his chest and glared. It was adorable.
“I wasn’t. I was thinking about how cute he looked like that. You know he could stop your heart in less than a minute, right?”
Lance was still glaring, and the sight of him, redfaced and petulant, fins still raised slightly, as if indignant themselves, had Shiro reluctantly, silently agreeing.
