hey! super random, but i'm just putting this here for anyone who happens to stumble upon it :)

i'm participating in a week-long writing competition called crazy writing week! basically, the point is to write as much as you possibly can in a week. you're assigned one of two teams, and the team with the most words written/badges earned (which you get by writing a lot)/hours spent writing wins!

if you're a writer between the ages of thirteen and twenty-five, consider signing up!

i think it's kind of similar to nanowrimo, for those of you who know what that is, but i'm not completely sure, since i never participated in nanowrimo lol

Question about the rules for the monthly writing competitions bc I like making sure I fully understand things instead of assuming: if the prompt of the month doesn't in itself specify otherwise, is writing with original characters in original worlds okay? I've been thinking of joining them as a way to get myself writing more, but I usually get ideas for characters I've made up myself instead of for characters from anything. Honestly, I would have a much harder time picking a source to pull characters, so if it's not even needed I'd rather not make things difficult

Sort of, in the Rank Heresy server (now open) we do writing competitions monthly. (And by we, I mean @therealvinellelle and I so far have been the consistent participants.)

Every month we anonymously submit pieces for the world's most awful prompts selected by the server. After a month those submissions authors are revealed (until then you get the fun of guessing).

Last month was "Lord of the Rings: It's a Prank War!" as a theme. The other options members did not pick were, as you imagine, other fandom prank wars.

They would have been terrible.

Vocal

Vocal is a platform for supporting, discovering and rewarding creators.

Hi guys many of you know I write poetry and you may have seen me post links to the site above. Vocal is a platform that pays you for writing in various ways. They have challenges, they pay you for every read you get on a story, you can receive tips ( a bit like Ko-Fi people can choose to tip you if they like you’re writing), you can also earn money via creator bonuses. This is relatively new but Vocal itself rewards creators for hitting certain milestones. Some of these milestones include $5 for your first 5 stories published, $10 for 10 stories and $50 for 50 stories ( I recently received my $50 bonus) You also get rewarded any time they pick your story as a top story or share on their social media that gives you a $5 bonus. There are also milestones for reaching a certain amount of reads and for liking 15 other creators stories. They are also introducing some new features soon to improve the site including the option to take recurring subscriptions/tips. If you sign up for Vocal + their paid membership (you can also use it for free) you get paid more per read & fees on tips are lower you also get to enter all the different challenges they post. They have a weekly challenge that usually has a top prize of $1000 $500 for 2nd place and $250 for 3rd. They also regularly have sponsored challenges in which prize pools are much larger one of which currently has $22,500 for the first place winner and another has $15000 for 1st place. I’ve currently earned $70 via reads and bonuses and received a $5 tip. If you’re a writer I do think vocal could be a good place to improve your writing and try out some different challenges also whilst earnings per reads aren’t much it’s a nice little bonus to be able to monetise your work.

They have various different categories btw not just fiction or poetry but things like recipes, life hacks, beauty etc so it’d be good for bloggers too.
