If I could, I’d bottle up the way you look at me and I would open it whenever I feel I need a kiss or maybe a little boost of confidence If I could, i’d take that look and wear it like a sweater and although feeling this all of the time would be nice, having you here would be better.
In an effort to get the band prepared for the show, the girls decided to go and make new outfits to shine onstage, thanks to Veenas mom
——————————————————————————
The girls just finished another run through of Kiss' song Turn on the Night from the album Crazy Nights. As they started to make music together, they realized that all four of them absolutely adored that song and decided to use it as their cover song for the competition. Veena was shredding her guitar as hard as she could, Tanya's drums filled the room with its echoing rich sound, Cassie fiercely played the keys, letting her fiery keyboard slide through the song expertly, and Katherine plucked at the notes with great precision and ferocity. The sound was glorious and they knew they had the song down just as good as the original track after studying it for hours.
Once they finished that final run through, they put their instruments and took a quick breath. Cassie starts organizing her sheets and looked over at Tanya, taking a long sip at her aqua water bottle
"I say that was the best time we did that one!" Cassie admitted enthusiastic
"Yeah I might have fumbled on that second pre chorus." Tanya remarked twirling her drumsticks
"Hey I never even noticed!" Veena replied
"That's because you were busy trying to jump like Paul in the 80s." Tanya retorted
"Oh shut up!" Veena playfully smacked Tanya on the shoulder and Tanya let outs a quick laugh. Cassie smiled back and took a notice of Katherine concentrating on her guitar, plucking the strings as hard as possible. She was testing out one of the bass guitars that the school provided and was struggling immensely to get it to sound right
"You ok Kath?" Cassie asked. Katherine finally looked up to see Cassie's questioning face
"Oh yeah I'm fine. It's the guitar that's bothering me. It sounds... muffled." She answered, trying her best to articulate her feelings
"This school has a lot of instruments that's either hand me downs or cheaply made. So don't really expect it to sound great." Veena replied bluntly. In response, she pressed her head against the neck of the guitar
"God I can't wait to get my own." She muttered annoyed.
Soon they hear a loud banging at the door, Tanya got up from her stool and opened up the door to see a familiar unfriendly face on the other side.
"Are you done in there? You're gonna make me deaf before I even practice." Tanya immediately slammed the door in response, staring back with a blank expression to the others
"Oh great Medusas here." Veena muttered.
"Just let her in. Our rehearsal times over anyways." Katherine told Tanya.
"But we still need to look over the original song." Cassie added. "Which might I add, we barely have anything done for it!"
"We just need to have a brainstorming session one of these days. Right now I desperately need a bass guitar in order for us to sound good. We're getting closer and closer and I still haven't got one."
"And also we need a name for the group! We haven't gotten one yet!" Veena alerted
"Ok this is ok! This is fine! We just need to chill for one second! Well get it all sorted out! I say we just try to come up with a name before-"
"You guys haven't gotten a name yet? Honestly, I expected that from you losers"
"Zoe shut up! Anyways we'll come up with a name and then try to get Katherine a bass guitar somehow." Tanya replied
"Actually I do have an idea. My mom has some old clothes she made for some shows she worked on. The other day she asked me if we wanted to come over and try them on. You know, give us a cute outfit for the occasion?" Veena suggested
"Really? Cute outfits?" Cassie asked curiously.
"Yeah she thinks we should get a look onstage!"
"Honestly, that would be really cool! As long as it's purple I'm in!"
"And my blue!" Zoe then pushes open the door to see the others.
"Um I'm right here. Can you hurry up the punk squad meeting already?" She ordered
"Oh shut your trap!" Tanya slammed the door back in her face. "Yeah I agree! Let's get some cute outfits and then we can go and try and make a name as we do!"
"Yeah Thatll be fun!" Cassie agreed. The girls started to pack up their instruments and opened the door to see Zoe again at the door.
"I'm still waiting." Zoe snarled, tapping her foot impatiently
"Yes here you go little miss boredom!" Veena almost shouted annoyed before Tanya grabbed her arm and started dragging her away from Zoe.
"Don't provoke her Veena it's not worth it." Tanya muttered
"I know but it would be so satisfying!" Veena answered, the girls still speedwalking down the hallway towards the stairway, heading down to the main entrance to finally get towards Veenas home

The four girls jumped off the Metro bus in a small part of the downtown area of St. John's. Katherine had never gotten the chance to explore downtown abd was pleasantly surprised by the scenery, houses lined up in a variety of vibrant colors, a massive view of the harbour and the sea along with tall hotels and business offices, and a large hill where a small castle sits, looking over the ocean below. The view was incredible and nothing like she had seen back in her old home as she stayed nearby a fence to take a few pictures, mesmerized by it's rich beauty
"First time here?" Veena asked.
"I never expected the downtown area to be this beautiful." Katherine replied
"Oh it's nice but unfortunately, the roads are filled with idiot drivers." Tanya said. "Well, actually it's like that everywhere in this city but you know what I mean."
"I guess. You should see the drivers back in Wyoming. Most of them don't even know how to yield of all things!"
"That's actually common here." Cassie remarked, receiving more laughs as Veena continues to walk down the street, guiding the group throughout the bustling city. Katherine admired several cathedrals and church's in the area, most of them made of faded crimson bricks, one even in the centre of the town, letting all cars circle around it.
Veena soon stopped at a cream coloured two storied house with brown window shutters. Faded gray stairs lead up to a dark brown door. The windowsills were filled with small yellow daffodils and red roses. Veena gently pulled the door open and Katherine looked around curiously, admiring the black and red walls inside, most of the golden brown wooden furniture arranged perfectly across the small house. On the right is the living room that has gray couches and arm chair and a matching golden brown wooden coffee table and side table.
In front of the porch entrance was a stairway that leads to the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. The stairway has golden brown railing and white carpet steps and a small closet underneath the steps. The small hallway next to it leads directly towards the kitchen and dining room. The house was small compared to hers and Tanya's but it was nice and cozy, perfect for their 4 member family.
"Mom! I'm home!" Veena called out, kicking her black sneakers off. Everyone shuffles into the house and Katherine dusts her light blue jeans off, hoping to look presentable as an older woman with crimson hair and hazel eyes come out of the kitchen. Her hair was tied in a messy bun and had a sparkly jacket over a lime green patterned shirt and dark blue jeans.
"Veena! There you are! Come in, i just pulled out the boxes!" She replied happily. "You can take a look too, Tanya and Cassie. And you must be Katherine right? Nice to meet you! Veena wouldnt stop talking about you!" She greeted warmly, everyone rushing into the kitchen to see a variety of cardboard boxes
"Hope she said good things." She joked. "These are all from your costume bank?" She admired all of the boxes as Cassie takes one and started peeking into it.
"Most of these are clothes I made for some tv shows I worked on. The goal was to make clothes that look like a mix of stage outfits and stuff you'd normally wear every day."
"These look great!" Tanya exclaimed, pulling out a blue sweater and a stripped shirt. "It's nice that you wanted to help us out with our clothes."
"Of course! I figured you girls wanted something really fun to wear for the occasion!" She answered.
"Thank you Miss Rogers." Katherine replied
"I'll leave you girls to it. And Katherine, you can call me Wanda." She responded happily, leaving the room. Katherine immediately sighed with relief, pressure finally lifted off of her shoulders. She just hoped that Veenas mom didn't viewed her weirdly and didn't wanted to embarrass Veena. But while deep in her thoughts, she felt Veenas hand rest on her shoulder
"Relax. My mom is chill. She wouldn't have helped us with these outfits if she wasn't." She reassured, Katherine smiled back at her and put a hand over hers.
"Hey Katherine! I found something you might like!" Cassie called out, tossing an amethyst purple jacket with a high colour over to her. The sleeves were cuffed and the back of the jacket had a small mauve star on the back. Katherine stared at the jacket before pulling it on over her white and purple stripped shirt. It fit perfectly like a glove and was rather comfortable inside
"Oh that looks good!" Tanya complimented. "Here, I found a matching skirt for it!" She tossed over a purple skirt with small mauve stars adorning the edges
"Oh that's gonna look so good on you!" Veena said happily.
"Yeah I think it will too!" She replied confidently. She soon sat down and joined the others on the floor, pull out other pieces of clothes trying to make the clothes match. Everyone started trying on all sorts of different styles of shirts, dresses, skirts, pants, shoes and more, until all four of them finally came together some new clothes for their performance.
"Alright girls! Let's see them!" Wanda exclaimed excitedly. Each of the girls came out, brand new outfits in various shades of blue purple and pink.
First was Veena, strutting out with a magenta jean jacket, black fabric inside the jacket with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, tiny pale pink buckles attaching them to the elbows. She had a matching magenta jean skirt with a black fabric attached to it, just covering her knees, adorned with small pale pink stars. She had a sparkly black top underneath and small gray ankle boots that possessed small magenta lining along the heel of the boots. In her hair, she wore black hair laces to keep her crimson hair back in her usual low ponytail style, giving her a hard rock edge look to her
Cassie came out next excitedly, sporting a long knee length dress, the top half being light pink with short filled sleeves barely covering her shoulders. Her shirt half resembled a button up dress shirt. The bottom half was a hot pink skirt and matching ribbon belt, giving her a cutesy look compared to the rest of the girls. Along with her small pink flats and hot pink headband adorned with tiny pink stars, she looked very petite than the rest of the girls
Tanya was rather casual compared to the rest of them, coming out sporting a sparkly blue shirt covered by light blue stars, with a dark blue button up blazer overtop with blue buttons on it. She had a blue belt on with a light blue buckles on it, star shaped and small, and a knee length skirt in three shades of blue, azure blue, cyan and light blue. She had knee high dark blue boots making her look rather business casual. Lastly her hair was tied back by a sparkly blue hair lace, framing her angular facial features perfectly, looking mature and confident
And lastly, Katherine came out next, a bit of shyness coming through. Sporting the purple jacket and matching skirt with mauve stars but also sported a lavender shirt with small purple stars drawn over it. She had a small sparkly purple belt with lavender buckles over it and purple flats with small mauve heels underneath. Topping it off, she had a small purple hair clip in the shape of a star. She looked the most glamorous of them all, giving off a pop star vibe with her look and bright violet hues all over her outfit
"Oh you girls look great!" Wanda proclaimed happily. "I love the stars all over the outfits, really makes you all look like a group!" She added.
"Honestly this was unintentional." Tanya remarked humorously.
"Well it looks fabulous on you!" Wanda replied
"So are we allowed to have it?" Katherine asked shyly
"Of course! Keep them! I don't really have a use for them anyways!" The girls beamed at the compliments and Katherine felt a bit more confidence coming out as she smoothed out her jacket and skirt. "Now, why don't you go and change and come down for dinner! Veena I made your favourite!"
"Oh yeah! Let's get some pasta!" Veena announced excitedly. The girls quickly changed back into their previous clothes and Katherine stared down at her jacket happily looking over the new stage outfit. A feeling of great accomplishment shining through. Stuffing them into her bag, she sighed in relief.
"Hey Kath! Come on down! My mom makes good pasta!" Veena said, standing by the doorway. Katherine slowly got up and smiled at her
I can’t help but think about a life where I didn’t know of your existence. A quieter sky, a road I would have walked alone, never knowing what was missing. But now your name lives in the spaces between my thoughts, and every version of the world without you feels a little less like home.
She moves through crowded rooms the way a traveler moves through a city after a long flight, present, but slightly detached from everything around her. People mistake it for shyness. Some lower their voices when they speak to her, as if she might break. Some offer sympathy she never asked for. Others tell her to smile more, unaware that she is already carrying enough weight without performing happiness too. What they cannot see is that she is busy with the exhausting work of returning to herself. The work happens in small, invisible moments: remembering to answer a text instead of staring at it for hours, standing in front of a wardrobe and choosing clothes when every option feels wrong, watching steam curl from a cup of coffee while her thoughts wander through old versions of her life. She isn’t sad in the dramatic way people understand sadness. She is rebuilding. Quietly. Brick by brick.
Most days, her mind feels like an old house after a storm. The furniture is still there. The walls are still standing. But everything sits in the wrong place. She walks through memories the way someone walks through dusty rooms, touching familiar objects and wondering why they no longer feel familiar. Outside, life continues with its usual certainty. Traffic lights change. Friends make plans. Strangers laugh into their phones. The world seems to know exactly where it is going. She watches it from behind a pane of glass only she can see, trying to remember when existing became something she had to consciously practice. Sometimes she catches herself staring at nothing in particular, the way sunlight pools on a pavement, the way leaves gather against a curb, the way rainwater clings to a window, and realizes entire conversations have happened around her without her hearing a word.
People call her quiet, but quiet is not the right word. There is nothing quiet about her mind. It is crowded with unfinished thoughts, old conversations, questions that arrive at midnight and stay until morning. She is carrying versions of herself she has not yet learned how to put down. The girl she used to be. The girl she thought she would become. The girl she is now. They all seem to walk beside her at once. So if she seems distant, if her smile arrives a little late, if her eyes linger somewhere beyond the person speaking to her, it is not because she doesn’t care. It is because she is still learning how to live after falling apart. Still learning how to make a home inside herself again.

Rule NO. 1 - there are no rules - take a prompt and write something with it, it dosen't have to be good, no one ever has to look at what you write. find joy in writing thats the goal behind the bingo sheet. find joy in writing for the joy of it. a scene a whole story. let the promts bring you what they will for ideas, use your brain to create something that will shock, reveal, titulate, arouse, disgust or shake you.
additional rules if you need peramiters to work within:
take a prompt once a week
for 10 minutes sit down with a notebook
act as if you are a child writing in the pages of your homework things that do not apply to class. or for those 10 minutes act as if writing is the secret hobby you do in your bedroom alone.
find the joy in what you write again.
write as much as you can.
use whatever works for you to get you motivated to write and makes you feel like your in love with writing again.
Doing the dishes, fulfilling responsibilities, walking around, laughing, drinking, listening to music, and talking to people with a heavy heart that has grown used to the pain. It feels like pretending; it doesn’t feel real, yet it is reality.
