saw an amazing prompt/drabble by @thecitythatdoesntsleep that gave me this idea !! might turn it into a full fic w/ multiple chapters
CW // it as a pronoun, pet whump, muzzle whump (kinda),
Pet couldn’t exactly remember what he’d done wrong, he just knew when he figured it out he apologized properly. He curled in on himself as best he could without his ribs feeling like they’d shatter at any second. His body continued to shiver as he moved his hands up and down his arms slowly. He felt sick for even thinking of wanting a blanket. One of his Masters was nice enough to put him back in his cage so he wouldn’t freeze to death outside and Pet couldn’t even be grateful enough for that. Maybe that’s what he'd done wrong. He hadn’t been grateful and appreciated his Masters enough for what they do for him. He watched every day as they worked hard taking care of others and punishing them so they could find a good home. Pet cringed at how desperately he knew he sounded when he remembered trying to take his punishment today. He didn’t mean to cry, he always tried to be grateful for his Masters teaching him to be better so he could find a forever home, but they made it so difficult sometimes. Both his previous Masters training was still rooted in his brain and even though he was supposed to forget he couldn't. But that's what he was he for, he could learn to get rid of it all before he could go to a forever home. He'd do everything he was told and they'd be so proud they'd never even think about biting him out of rage and he'd only have to deal with their hunger. At least they'd be gentle...

Kieran’s eyes rolled as his assistant continued to babble on about how much responsibility it was to take care of a human and how fragile they were compared to other creatures. Kieran let out a small sigh.
“My mother’s calling.”He paused, stopping Victor’s ramble. He could practically see the scowl growing on Victor’s face.
“You don’t even speak to your mother!” Victor hissed, making him snatch the phone from his ears. He hadn’t even had the phone on speaker yet he could still hear him yelling and going on about his recent behavior.
“Well I can’t keep my mommy dearest waiting.” Faux pouting came into his voice. Victor let out a huff as the phone finally went silent except for the small beeping at the end. Kieran finally let go of the breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding. He continued on his journey to the small rundown pound on the other side of town. It'd be discreet and the pets here didn't need much training. Exactly what he needed, one simple enough to handle the cameras.
Walking inside the small building his eyes landed on a man and women at the counter. A little girl came running from behind the back door a large Pet in tow trailing behind her. It was almost ironic the pet was at least three times her size and yet it was shaking like a leaf at the mere sight of the child before it.
“Mama! Mama! This is the one!”The little girl grinned pointing at the larger pet behind her. The woman eyed the pet over once before turning to the man at the counter.
“Go on and take a look in the back while I help these nice ladies out.” The man nodded his head toward the door.
Kieran gave a small nod making his way past the door. Some pets rushed to the front of their cages, trying to present themselves. These pets weren't being sold in regular shops because of what their owners had done to them. A pet with a scar on its face could usually be sold easily but being over in them was a different story. He continued down the aisle the scars and actions of the Pets becoming much worse. Some of them were screaming at him and others stared him down.
He stopped on the corner of the last row. The pet inside didn’t rush to the front or yell,it stayed right where it was on its side sniffling.
“Hello?" Kieran hesitated before he spoke almost afraid of what the poor creature looked like. The human was startled, slammed its head on the top of its crate that was clearly to small for it. It was a bit dark in the room but he could tell the pet had been crying.
“Nice very nice pick, he's very well behaved.” The man’s voice sounded from behind him. Kieran whipped around, startled by the man's sudden presence.
"Cmon out." The man popped open the crate and brought the pet to his feet. In the light he could see the reason he was in the way back, his hair was pure white.
"Is that hybrid?!" He stepped back looking around the room for cameras. He couldn't be caught here. Being anywhere near a hybrid outside of a rehabilitation center or a rescue would tank his reputation, he could even be arrested.
"Are you out of your mind, yelling shit like that around this place." The man cleared his throat after looking around the room making sure no one else had heard Kieran's question.
"When he came back from his last home he was in shock, wouldn't eat, wouldn't talk, more like couldn't...he could barely get a word out; his stutter was so bad back then. His hair started turning white and now he looks like this. We don't take hybrids here."

Pet watches as his possible master put out a hand to him, gently grabbing his hand as he led the way into the front of the store.
“Leave the tag empty.
"Black."
"He's gotten all his shots?"
He was having a hard time staying focused. He wasn't sure if he could take all this in. But he couldn't mess this up. He only had one chance to get out of this place for the last time.
"You alright?"
The strangers Master's voice pulled him from his thoughts. How long had he not been focused? Was he even going to make it out of the shop? He couldn't afford these types of mistakes anymore.
"Your Master just asked you a question boy."
Pet's mouth went dry as he began trying to apologize, but the words simply refused to come out.
"I-I'm sorry Sir! It won't happen again." He rambled. He couldn't even get out of the lobby without a making a scene like this.
"It's...It's fine"Master's face was unreadable and that was enough to make Pet sick.
He didn't turn back. He didn't want to see this place ever again. They killed pets that came back more than twice. This was his last try at anything. He wouldn't mess up again.
He would be good.
