Defensive driving is one of the best ways to prevent unwanted collisions with other vehicles. The whole premise of defensive driving is, of course, that others can make mistakes, and others can drive in a reckless or negligent manner and put your safety at risk. By being alert at all times of potential mistakes others can make on the road, you can sometimes make the right maneuvers to avoid collision and thereby defend yourself.
Unfortunately, no matter how alert you are on the road, and no matter how careful, there can be situations in which collision is unavoidable. And in those cases, you can only hope that the repercussions of the collision won’t be too devastating. But unfortunately, sometimes they are, and they can include permanent severe injuries, or even death. Consider, for example, last night’s terrifying accident that took place on the 110 North near downtown Los Angeles. A driver who was reportedly driving “erratically” suddenly made a U-turn on the freeway and started driving in the wrong direction. The car apparently weaved through oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with an SUV, killing the drivers in both vehicles. According to reports, it is not yet known whether the culpable driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. While the culpable driver is now deceased, it is likely that a lawsuit will arise against his estate for personal injuries caused to the victim in the collision. Unfortunately, no lawsuit will be able to bring back the now dead victim.
