Today is the 21st anniversary of Douglas Corrigan’s passing. Corrigan earned the nickname of Wrong-Way Corrigan in 1938 when he departed from New York City in his single engine plane and landed in Ireland instead of California.

If you are in Long Beach, head over to the Historical Society for the opening of their Pearl Harbor Exhibition and check out how the airport was impacted by the war.
In Honor of the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor...
The Douglas Aircraft plant opened in Long Beach in 1940. After the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan in 1941, the plant increased its production and its workforce. Before long, the plant became a prominent fixture in the Douglas production operation. The economy of Long Beach was greatly impacted by the plant as many men and women were brought to the production line to meet the wartime demands. While the Douglas Aircraft plant is no longer around, its “Fly DC Jet” sign still lights up the sky. While we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor and the decision of the U.S to enter into WWII, let us also remember those on the home front that supported wartime efforts.
