With Starlight In Their Wake

So I know I've mentioned it in the tags a few times and maybe off-handedly in a post but I am, in fact, rewriting my Doctor Who longfic With Starlight in Their Wake. I know a lot of my followers turned up for Miraculous Ladybug but for those of you who've been here since my WSITW/Doctor Who days...hello. ;3

WSITW Redeux will begin with The Runaway Bride and continue from there.

Here are some answers to questions I know old fans of the fic will have:

Why?

I'd like to continue the WSITW verse but I'm 29 now and a LOT has changed for me. I started writing this fic when I was 18, undiagnosed for everything, and quite naive about interpersonal relationships beyond my own limited scope. I also had an incorrect understanding of certain concepts and aspects which were fundamental to events within the story. If I'm going to continue this series, I need to get it up to my current standards.

What about the original story?

It will remain entirely untouched save for title and description modifications to indicate to those who find it that there is a revamp.

Where will it be published?

AO3, FFnet, Tumblr. I'm not going to revisit Teaspoon simply because their moderators enforced certain punctuation requirements that I'm not a fan of. Back then, for teenage me, it was useful. 29 year old me does not need to be told where to put her commas and periods thank you very much. Is it a complete rewrite?

No. A lot of the original material remains intact! I am using the original text wherever possible and making modifications to grammar, descriptions, stabilizing POV, and reworking how certain events play out. Some things have been cut entirely, some things have been written fresh.

So, some episode events proceed more or less the same as the did in the original. However others have been entirely overhauled, the most significant of which so far has been The Shakespeare Code. It is almost unrecognizable compared to the original and it's wholly for the better. I am excited to share it.

“Maybe quit when your ahead next time.” Rose suggested.

The Doctor rounded on her. “You’re one to talk!”

“Doctor…” she warned but it was too late. Donna was interested.

“Oh, this I’ve got to hear,” said the bride with a wicked grin.

“We were with this friend of ours, Jack. Nice fellow, good in a pinch, bit of a menace to society though. Hell of an alcohol tolerance. Drank her under the table at this bar in the 47th century. Stuff then’s way stronger than anything you lot have now. By the time I figured out what was going on, Jack had to carry her out of there in his arms and I had to fend off a rather persistent chap that she’d agreed to marry!”

Rose scowled and Donna roared with laughter. “Forget what I had—that must’ve been some pretty good stuff!”

“Yeah and the Doctor swore to never talk about that again,” Rose said through her teeth.

“The Doctor did not!” he retorted.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN REVAMPING WSITW. REWRITE? YOOOOOOOOOO I'M EXCITED FOR THIS AND FOR YOU

Yeah, I started about a week ago ^^ it's not quite a rewrite because I'm not starting from scratch, but I am heavily editing each chapter.

Some things will stay the same such as the overall plot, but smaller things are being reworked. Martha is still a central character and the dynamics of Team TARDIS will be much the same-- but the details of Rose's connection with the TARDIS are getting tweaked a bit. stuff like that. I'm going to be explaining things better as well. The dialogue's been getting overhauled--so far I'd say about 2/3rds of it has been tweaked in some way, even if its just a bit of rewording.

Right now I'm working on chapter 6, which is what originally was chapter 1, but I'm making Donna's episode the beginning of the story instead. ^-^

I'm going to get decently far into it before I start posting anything, just to make sure I don't forget something I'd been intending to rework. And, ofc, @kryallaorchid is helping me soundboard stuff uwu just like she did from.....what....Human Nature-ish(?) on last time.

I'm rereading with starlight in their wake (still amazingly written btw) and in chapter 22, you mentioned the year 2020 and immediately I was like "oh honey..."

Hi!! I know it’s been quite awhile since you wrote the starlight series and I’m sorry if this is a blast from the past you didn’t want to see but I just found it this year and I’m currently reading it and I just absolutely love it. It is one of if not the best fic that I’ve ever read and the story is absolutely amazing. This story is especially important to me because the character Elliot actually made me come to the realization that I was mute as a kid and seeing that experience through Elliot (even if it was different circumstances) was so special to me and it will always stick with me. So thank you so much for writing this story because I absolutely adore it

Thank you <33  You’re not the first person who’s told me something like this and I’m honestly glad he resonated so well with people, particularly as his situation was not one I could empathize with.

I think Guardians has gained its own little mini-fandom and I just kinda of. If Sombra gets hurt badly you might have like actual death threats just because people are assholes.
