I like the idea of Inumaki sort of being self-conscious about his seals but also kind of not

"Dude, you are going to get heatstroke," Maki warns.

"Bonito flakes."

Yeah, he's hot. Of course he is, it's 98° out. But they're sitting in the shade at least and Inumaki's not in the mood to take his uniform off.

Which sounds bad

It's seriously not like he hates the seals on his face. He's fine brushing his teeth in the mirror, he doesn't sleep with a mask on- it's just his face, after all. It's only the moment he takes a step out of his room that he feels the overwhelming instinct to hide.

"Hey, Inumaki, believe me. We're not pushing you to show us your face," Panda says, resting a paw on his shoulder. "You just really shouldn't be wearing that in this heat. Even a medical mask from Miss Shoko would probably be better."

Inumaki huffs. Maybe it's simply because the markings are such a dead giveaway to his technique. Having them out makes it easy, too easy for a sorcerer to walk in, see that and only that: a cursed speech user. The thought makes Inumaki cringe. Sometimes he's not in the mood to be just a cursed speech user.

Maki pokes him in the knee. "Would you rather end up in the infirmary or chill the hell out and enjoy your boba where literally no one else can see us?"

But... these are his friends. Fellow students who have gone through the effort to try and understand him through their language barrier and give it their all sparring against him. Panda helps water the garden on particularly lazy days. Maki sits and watches him cook dinner while she recounts her day out loud.

With them, it's fine. He unzips his jacket, his classmates finally looking satisfied as it falls onto the grass behind them. And if he does feel a whole lot more comfortable in his t-shirt, well. It's not like he has to tell them.

I literally love Atsushi angst so what if there was a petty thief who was way too pathetic to pose a threat BUT was warned about the weretiger's ability, so when Atsushi goes to apprehend him, the thief clicks on a device that emits a super loud, high-pitched sound to disrupt creatures with sensitive hearing. Even worse, it's military-grade and the thief drops it before running, leaving Atsushi stuck next to it as he collapses to his knees screaming, his hands covering his ears. And it takes a good five seconds for Kunikida to even register what's happening, even after he connects the dots and crushes the device underfoot, he cringes at the way Atsushi is wailing. Imagine Tanizaki gently wiping the blood off the sides of his neck while Atsushi throws up his dinner on the asphalt. Atsushi heaving heavy breaths where he rests in the backseat, Dazai's noise-canceling headphones over his head and a cool washcloth over his face. The agency knowing Atsushi has sensitive hearing but not knowing it was that sensitive, and feeling so guilty how there's nothing they can do to ease his pain, only relay messages through text because Atsushi can't hear them.

Atsushi having childish emotional outbursts. I hate to be ooc I really do but I'm just thinking, with his (extremely) rough upbringing, he wasn't exactly given the opportunity to mature in that regard. So what if one day Dazai and Kunikida were pestering him that he already doesn't eat enough, that he can't skip lunch break and has to eat something. And what if Atsushi doesn't want to. He doesn't want to eat. They can't make him. The harder they push, the more upset he gets, until sweet Atsushi has slit pupils, sharpened nails and his actually raising his voice at them. He storms away and slams the Agency door shut behind him on his way out, leaving the two detectives flabbergasted. It being Kenji or Yosano who join him where he's holed himself up on the roof and let him explain what happened.

What if Atsushi doesn't want that checkup today. What if he doesn't care his shirt has a bloodstain, what if he doesn't want to take it off. What if he doesn't want to. Even though all of them almost certainly know better, what if Atsushi doesn't want to eat lunch that day.

I can't stop making Atsushi mega-depressed so here goes:

"Do you like being a detective?" Lucy had asked him once, frowning at the way Atsushi picked at the crumbs of his raspberry tart without making any moves to actually eat it.

"I do."

Because believe it or not, they were still a detective agency. When they weren't fighting tooth and nail to save increasingly larger amounts of people from off their rockers ability-users, people still came in requesting help investigating a potential stalker. The ADA still shows up in the listings when you look up 'Yokohama private investigators' and Atsushi doesn't mind at all. Atsushi can take a witness statement.

He likes working. He likes the people he works with. He's just not sure if they like him.

It's a paranoid thought. Distantly, he knows this. But every fear has an inkling of reason behind it, a bit of truth to back it up, and it comes in the form of Kenji and Tanizaki's back and forth bouncing of school stories and village shenanigans. Haruno places a box of cookies on Ranpo's desk where he and Yosano are giggling about something unknown. Over yonder, a client heaves a sigh of relief and admits how thankful they are, how much safer they feel with Kunikida on the case. Meanwhile Atsushi can't find the print button on his pdf and wants to bawl his eyes out.

Nullification, object creation, healing, super strength, illusions...

and a tiger. At least the tiger is helpful in combat. Weeks like these, ones filled with slow-paced paperwork and easy cases, Atsushi is just Atsushi.

"You don't sound very convincing there, tiger."

The boy sips at his tea, the thought of eating lunch only makes him feel sick. "I don't know if I'm any good at it."

Hero? Atsushi can try to play hero. Detective? The only reason he's a detective in the first place is because Dazai saw him turn into a tiger.

So yes, Atsushi does like taking witness statements and filing reports, because it feels productive and he enjoys actually doing something when he's used to curling up in a corner and doing nothing. Every day he's allowed to get out of his desk and walk to the break room without being screamed at feels like a luxury.

He's just not sure what he's done to deserve it.

Literally all I am saying is what about:

Bell waking up when everyone finally finds him and Ryu in the deep floors, speaking with them for a few moments, and then passing out. And then waking up, asking if they can take him home, and then passing out again. And then waking up, and passing out again

Him being carried on Welf's back, suddenly jolting awake and frantically tapping on the blacksmith's shoulder to put him down, and subsequently retching onto the dungeon floor (probably the mold Ryu made him drink). It's just water and saliva and a little bit of blood, having not eaten in days.

Thinking that he's good to start walking by himself, only to stumble on the very first step. The group decides to take a break.

The group eagerly trying to get Bell to drink but he can barely stay awake long enough to process what they want in the first place

Bell shaking and shaking and shaking and Welf putting his jacket on him.

Cassandra having healed him as best she can, but magic can't fix blood loss or shock or the bone-deep exhaustion that comes with barely surviving the deep floors for days

Bonus:

Later, having to very awkward recall to Airmid all the injuries he sustained. The poison, the bites, the self-cauterization...

In light of me reaching cour 2, allow me to be extremely self-indulgent and propose:

-Bell using Firebolt on his friends and screaming at them to stay away, not realizing that they're not monsters at first

-Bell breaking down in tears when he finally processes his allies are here to help him

-Bell begging them to take him home, he wants to go home so badly

-Bell letting out a blood-curdling scream when someone grabs his arm to lift him up, because obviously nobody knew the bones were broken

-Bell hyperventilating the whole way back to the surface on Welf's back

-Bell who throws himself into his goddess's arms and sobbing that he never wants to step foot in that dungeon again

-Hestia who doesn't believe him, because she knows how strong her Child is, but lets him take all the time in the world he needs to build back up the courage

Look I know I get it I'm literally the only person who cares, BUT as a whump lover through-and-through, I cannot stop thinking about how badly Bell got FUUUUUUCKED up by that black minotaur at the end of season 3. Even for anime standards that felt like a lot of concrete walls and floors for one guy to go crashing through back-first and not completely vaporize his spine lmfao

And because I am a whump lover through-and-through, I am now doomed to daydreaming about an alternate end to that scene, where Hestia and Mikoto or whoever alarmedly running towards this literal CRATER left in the ground by their boy, where he lays totally mangled in a river of red.

Imagine he's totally delirious when Hestia crashes onto her knees beside him, all smiling when he says "H-hey, Kami-sama," as if he's welcoming her home from work, though the words are gargled with blood and hard to understand.

Mikoto swiftly moves to turn him on his side so that the blood continuing to leak out of his nose and mouth don't choke him to death, if those injuries don't kill him first. "We need a healer, Hestia, now."

And poor Hestia, she jerks her head in a nod before foolishly asking, "Bell, can you- can you stand?" The question is brainless, obviously, but she can't think straight when Bell looks one foot in the grave like he does now. She's seen her child down and injured before, but not... not like this.

"Nnno, I can't... feel m' legs Kami-sama."

Imagine Hestia holding Bell's unrecognizably bloodied and bruised hands in her own. Imagine the nauseating sight of all his joints and bones not where they were ten minutes ago. Imagine all the blood.
