Chainlink CCIP chosen as official cross-chain bridge for wstETH, boosting security and resilience after DeFi exploits.
Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) has been selected by Lido's Network Expansion Committee as the official cross-chain infrastructure for Wrapped Staked Ether (wstETH). This decision comes amid rising concerns over bridge security in decentralized finance, following costly exploits that have resulted in nearly $3 billion in losses. Chainlink CCIP secures each wstETH bridge lane with at least 16 independent node operators, ensuring decentralization and resilience, demonstrated by its uninterrupted operation during the October 2025 AWS outage. The protocol also employs per-chain rate limits to act as circuit breakers during market stress, and preserves full sovereignty of wstETH token contracts without vendor lock-in. Additional security measures, such as secondary confirmations for large transactions, are being developed to further protect users as wstETH expands across multiple blockchains.
➤ Chainlink's CCIP has been chosen as the official cross-chain bridge for Lido's wstETH, enhancing security and resilience. ➤ This decision addresses rising concerns over DeFi bridge exploits, with CCIP employing multiple node operators and rate limits for protection. ➤ The integration aims to secure wstETH expansion across blockchains while maintaining token contract sovereignty.
