Yes. 100%.
In another life when it was gonna be a longer fic so prepare for the vague plan i always had for it:
Shield falling apart (and the plot of CATWS) would have been a breaking point for them. Natasha wouldn't know if Reader was maybe a Hydra plant. Reader would be heartbroken.
Reader would have been entirely mistrusted by Steve and Natasha etc. And maybe they do something to incapacitate reader, to keep her contained just in case.
But then Reader would be proven innocent when Natasha releases all the Hydra secrets online.
Then Natasha would feel extremely guilty of course. But it'd be too late and reader would be exhausted and hurt in a whole new way, especially after being effectively imprisoned.
Then, there'd be a security threat to Natasha because of her leaking the files online. This would also terrify Reader, leading her to be always worrying about someone she's too scared to know again. She'd hear bits about it from Clint, who despite their start, she stays friends with.
This would resolve in Age of Ultron plot, when Natasha is sent back into her memories of the Red Room by Wanda.
Clint knowing that Reader is the only person who can help, would call Reader up.
Reader would show up at the Homestead and would reconnect with Natasha there.
Reader would be doing everything to take care of Natasha. Natasha would be so worried about not deserving it, messing it up again. The inevitability that things would go wrong.
And at last, she'd confess this to reader.
Reader would say that Natasha has trust issues. And that's not her fault, of course she does. But so does Reader now. And all they ever really have are each other's promises and the trust they build together. And it might take a lifetime for them to have as much trust as they both need.
An AU were the Dough trio escape the dessert lands to find a place to finally live in peace. However, things didn't go their way. Sorry for the weird writing.
