Not my normal post but ig I wanted to express some things about what happened on Ashley's birthday stream. Even if it was years ago, black/brown ppl have every way to feel how they do given Fandom spaces are just not welcoming to minorities and will find any and all reasons to disrespect them.
You can think hes not racist and mad a mistake but to speak over ppl who are actually effected is the issue at had.
I dont have anything to say about Michael as I feel it's not may place too given I very much ran in circles and was freinds with ppl who had similar and worse "humor" years ago during covid. I am not freinds with those ppl anymore and while I can say reasons like they where my only freinds and just wanted to be liked they are not excuses. I still knew better and yet was around and called them some of my best freinds. I knew how messed up it was, I still knew better but I chose to stay with them.
People talk about have a "racist phase" as if its normal and ok which is not, people only say so because they feel bad. Its so embarrassing that I was willing to stay in environment and with those people and for what? It never was ok and people who insist otherwise have things they clearly need to address with themselves. Even then it's not up to us if we're actually better or not. You actually have to do better because you want do, to learn and grow and doing otherwise means you haven't.
Especially if you have to be little minorities and talk down to them to insist it wasn't an issue. Like why is there a need to coddle white ppl and their racism? "Oh but what are second chances and letting them grow?" Why does hurting others get people to grow? Why do black and brown ppl have to be ok with racism? With being the butt of the joke and disrespect to the point the racism is normalized? To protect white fragility? That white ppl are the end all be all? That they can further perpetuate harmful rhetoric and get away with it? These are the results of Systemic racism that white ppl cant even sympathize with minorities anymore and have to insist something is wrong with them to have an issue with racism? Like do we not see the problem here? Ngl im too upset to really say anything else.
Ok but I do wanna add that im so repulsed but how tadc Fandom is now being so casually racist if defence of Michael, like are yall fucking serious?!?!? Ima have to dip out of that Fandom too. Like this is clearly a much bigger issue and maybe it was good the the Fandom was outed.
