Whoo! It’s been a hot minute but I’m back with a tag game. The wonderful @kittensartsbooks tagged me for this one, so let’s dive right on in. I’ll go ahead with Eris because I don’t feel like I ever gush about her enough (or most of my OCs, and that needs to change).
List five basic facts for your OC
She will cut her hair if it even begins to touch her neck.
She is bad with both people and animals.
She ran away from a gang when she was seventeen.
Her best work is done in the quietest parts of the day like twilight and just before dawn.
26 at the start of the story.
If your OC could have any superpower, which would it be and why?
I guess in a sense she already has a superpower. Being able to summon and channel lightning from basically a dimensional rift is nothing to sneeze at, and honestly, she’s very happy with that. The feeling of energy pulsing in and around her creates a sort of adrenaline high. It reminds her that she is in control of the worst of situations. Also she just thinks it’s cool. Can you blame her?
Post a pic/gif that describes your OC:
If anyone tries to rope her into something.
Summarise your WIP in ten words or less.
Magic appendixes start questions. Lab rats change the world.
Do you have any villains in your story?
Well yes...but none that I would like to name right now. Honestly, they’re more like antagonists than villains. I am a massive ambassador of them being of separate mind, body, and definition. Anyways, if you want an answer to this question stay tuned!
What’s easier for you to write, dialogue or description?
Definitely description. I love writing scenes that utilize senses, particularly sight and touch. I know it’s a basic technique, but I can’t help but love it whenever I get to write parts of that. On the other hand, my editing self is forever screaming at my writing self to keep description to a minimum...oh well!
If you could assign your story one song, what would it be?
Oh, that one’s tough! I guess...P!nk’s What About Us fits pretty well. I have a building playlist so more on that later maybe?
Where do you get inspiration from?
My WIP, "Where They Left Us” has gone through an astonishing number of evolutions, but what really set this one in motion was the concept of interdimensional magics, themes of modern racism and class separation, as well as my good friend @darkangel12662 joking about magical appendixes and giving me the weirdest epiphany to date. My other WIP that I have on the backburner came about during multiple daydreams in my college astronomy course. Bless my teacher for all the peculiar questions I asked about star formation and life cycles. Generally speaking, though, abstract concepts and questions mixed with scientific depth fuel me!
Do you tend to overwrite or underwrite in your first draft?
Definitely overwrite. I always panic and think that my chapters need more fill before kicking myself during editing. It helps to look at books that utilize short chapters well to remind myself that quantity should not be prioritized over quantity. One of my favorite old examples is the “Maximum Ride” series by James Patterson.
Today I’ll tag the amazing @cogwrites @acutecupidity @reeseweston @lady-redshield-writes and @forlornraven. If you can’t or don’t want to, no worries! And if I didn’t tag you and you want to participate anyways, go for it! And please tag me if you do. I’d love to hear about your OCs and WIPs!
P.S. If I haven’t gotten around to your tag games, I apologize! Life has been hectic and tumblr has been tumblr. I appreciate the thought though! Hopefully I’ll get around to more at some point in the near future.
