To say that Torque Martain was unimpressed would’ve been the understatement of the century. Torque was more than unimpressed, more than unhappy and miles beyond angry. No, Torque was downright pissed off.
It wasn’t always easy to get Torque riled up. Sure he could have a quick temper and a sharp tongue, but those were merely ‘in the moment’ type feelings and ones that didn’t last very long at that. An unhappiness held one day was usually gone by the next and people were often surprised as to how harsh words simply bounced off his back. They told him that he must simply have tough skin, but the truth was Torque really didn’t have it in him to actually care enough to stay angry.
This however, this he cared.
When the notices had gone up announcing to the Mancers that not only were they not to attack any Knights spotted in the forest, they were also going to help them, Torque almost saw blood swarm across his eyes, and he would’ve spilt some too, had he had any less control. His hands trembled with rage as he sought to keep the feeling contained, refusing to let anyone else see just how unsettled the announcement had made him. All around her could hear other Mancers, some agreeing wholeheartedly with the notice which only made him feel worse, but a large majority also echoing the voices in his head and voicing the concerns he too had in hushed whispers and murmurs.
“This is ridiculous,” he heard one man say. “They’re going to kill us all.”
“They’ll murder all the children,” another one said. “And then they’ll come for us.”
And finally, “the captain’s gone mad.”
The captain’s gone mad. The line rang through his head. Of course. It wasn’t these people who were the problem, it was the Captain. The Captain who was going to be sending all of them to their deaths. Ripping the notice off the board amidst the confused looks all around him, Torque marched his way through the camp and burst into Marius’ tent without word, warning or fanfare, his grip on the sheet of so tight it looked as if he thought that the words would just disappear if he just squeezed hard enough.
“Y’know Captain, I’m all for sending soldiers on dangerous and risky missions, I mean, hell, we all know what we’ve signed up for, specially when the rewards outweigh the losses. I just hadn’t realised that sending your men on suicide marches was in vogue this season.”

After lunch, the day went on as usual. Classes resumed, lessons were learned, and most of Rue High's student body found the new Honors English teacher to be...I guess you can say, quite unique. Since it was the first day of school, Rue High would cut their school day a period shorter than usual to have their annual Student Clubs Fair, an event held in the gymnasium where students could learn about the different clubs and activities at Rue High.
"COME CHECK OUT THE KNITTING CLUB!!"
"JOIN THE QUIDDITCH CLUB!"
"TRY OUT FOR BASKETBALL!"
The voices of different team captains and club presidents surrounded the gym as they sought out new recruits. As founder and editor in chief of "The Scoop", Sasha was in charge of her club booth and like the great friend she is, Dana was there by her side to help out.
"CALLING ALL WRITERS AT RUE HIGH, WE WANNA HEAR YOUR VOICES AT THE SCOOP, RUE HIGH'S NEWSPAPER AND ONLINE BLOG!" Sasha yelled as she tried to grab the attention of the student body
"Yeah, y'all! Come work with The Scoop! We have snacks and all at our meetings and it is a great opportunity to make new friends." Dana joined in as she tried to help
"Oh, that pathetic excuse for a newspaper, please…." said Kam as he walked by the booth
"KAM, JUST SHUT THE F-----"
"SASHA, keep calm. Don't let him bother you. He likes it when you're angry." Dana interrupted Sasha's comeback
"Oh, typical Sasha." muttered Kam as he walked away from the booth with a smug smile on his face
"Kam…can't you be nice to her once in a while?" Kam heard a voice from behind him
He looked behind him to see Cris standing there.
"Aren't you supposed to be at the Debate Club booth?" Cris asked Kam
"Uh….nahh. U's got it. I mean look at him!" Kam replied
They turned to look at the Debate Club booth and how Ulysses is doing.
"OMG ULYSSES TAKE ME TO THE PROM?"
"IF I JOIN, WILL YOU GO OUT WITH ME?!"
"OMG YOU'RE SO HOT!!"
A group fangirls were crowded at the Debate Club booth.
"Ladies, ladies! PLEASE calm down!" Kam and Cris heard Ulysses say to the girls
"Oh, poor Ulysses." Cris said "Anyways, my dad's taking me shooting today at the gun range. Wanna come?"
"Oh, I can’t like I have umm…papers to write and …"
"Come on, Kam! Ulysses is coming too."
Kam sighed. "Okay, fine Cris…."
"Okay! I'm going to check out these booths and all and you go and help Ulysses run the booth. He looks like he needs some help." said Cris after seeing that Ulysses was being attacked by some fan girls "I'll see you after at 3:30, my house. Bye!"
"Bye…" said Kam
"Ugh, Kam, why are you acting so awkward around, Cris?" Kam thought to himself "She's just your friend! You can't do anything with her. I mean, she's known you for so long. It would be so weird if you told her how you feel AND it would ruin your friendship. Sighs, at least it's just one more year of being in school with her. I'll be fine. I just have to stay calm and make it less obvious."
Suddenly loud music starts playing in the gymnasium.
"GIVE IT UP FOR THE FIGHTING MUSTANGS! WHOO!" Sheri cheered as Ronnie, Geno, and the football players entered the room.
"YEAH LETTME HEAR YOU SAY HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY RUE HIGH!!! LET'S GO FIGHTING MUSTANGS AND GIVE IT UP FOR THE SENIORSSSSSS!!!" Ronnie yelled
"YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! LET'S GO MUSTANGS!" the gym cheered
"DON'T FORGET TO COME AND CHEET FOR OUR TEAM AND FOR THOSE INTERESTED, TRY OUTS ARE ON MONDAY! LETTME HEAR YOU SAY YEAH RUE HIGH!" Ronnie yelled
"YEAH!"
"Ugh, why does everything have to be a spectacle for him?" Kam said as he sighed
"DUDE, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? COME HELP WITH THIS BOOTH!" Ulysses ran over to get his friend
"You seemed like you were having fun there bro!" Kam said teasing his friend
"Really? Anyways you coming with us to the gun range?"
"Unfortunately, yes....I mean I have so much to do like applications and essays and ---"
"Dude, just live a little. I mean it's just the FIRST day of school. Why so serious? You've also been very jittery and nervous lately. You okay?" Asked Ulysses
"I'm fine...just essays and all. You know, that stuff. I'm just stressed about getting accepted into Harvard. I mean I'm not THAT stressed." Kam said as he tried to cover up the truth
"Ooookay….whatever you say man. But just breathe a bit you know. I know you'll get into Harvard. Don't worry." Ulysses assured his friend "Look just shoot some guns at the range to relieve some stress. It will be fun, you know. The Dream Team hanging together. You know Team Super Alliance! Me, you, and Cris, since the beginning!"
"Hahas…yeah….just me, you, …and Cris."
"YEAH! That's the spirit. Now, why don't we finish up things at the booth and we can head over to Cris'."
"Yeah sure…" said Kam
"Okay, girls. My buddy Kam here is going to help out here for a bit and sign you all up for the Debate Club!" Ulysses said to all of the fangirls waiting around the club booth
"IF WE JOIN, WILL YOU TAKE US OUT?!"
"Only if you can write a well-written opening statement for each debate, work consistently on research, and help the team win state champions again." Kam said to the girls
"Uh…we just wanted a date from Ulysses, not death…" said one of the fan girls as the crowd began to head the other way
"And that's how you get rid of fangirls…." said Kam
After the club fest, Kam and Ulysses drove to Cris' house.
"Yeah, Cris. We're at your door." Ulysses informed Cris on the phone
The door opens and Cris is in her leather jacket and black skinny jeans.
"Come in guys!" Cris said as she lead them through her house
"You look so good…" Kam said quietly
"Who looks good? Me, Kam? Thanks bro! I worked hard on picking out this outfit."
"Wait…what!? Oh, no. I was just thinking about….uh….how great Megan Fox looked in Transformers." defended Kam
"But you told me Megan Fox was overrated?" said a puzzled Ulysses
"Well…she looked great in that movie."
"Guys, just hang out on the couch for a bit and we'll wait for my dad to get ready." said Cris
"Oh my goodness! Is that Kam and Ulysses sitting on my couch! Hello, boys! I haven't seen you in a while! You've both grown up so nicely!" said Cris' mom as she came into the living room
"HEY MRS. CROTZ!" said Ulysses
"Hello Mrs. Crotz. How have you been lately?" said Kam
"I've been great Kam! Just trying to prepare myself for the possibility of my baby girl leaving for NYU next fall! Hahas! How's everything going with you, the both of you. I heard you want to go to Harvard Law while Ulysses wants to go to Georgetown. Both really prestigious schools and you both are really intelligent, young men. And handsome might I add." said Mrs. Crotz
"Why THANK YOU Mrs. Crotz!" Ulysses said
"OMG MOM! That's so awkward!" Cris said
"You say that now sweetie pie but middle school…." said Cris' dad as he came into the room
"OMG DAD! I NEVER HAD A CRUSH ON THEM. They're JUST my friends." Cris defended
"Just friends?" thought Kam
"Remember that day when you were all at that party in the seventh grade and you kissed Ulysses and I remember picking you up from the party and all of your friends were making fun of you and all and ---"
"DAD! WE KISSED BECAUSE I WAS DARED TO!"
"Hahahas, but you sure liked it didn't you?" Ulysses teased
"In your dreams…" Cris said as she shot him a sly smile
"OH OKAY! KIDS. Sorry I ever brought this up! Let's go to the range now!" Cris' dad said as he began to regret ever recounting that story
"Hello all! And welcome to the first meeting of The Scoop! I'm Sasha Horne, the editor in chief of The Scoop, and I would like to thank everyone who came out today at Club Fest and signed up! We plan to have our first issue of the year come out by the third week of school. We also have to write posts for the daily blog for The Scoop. So we have different sections that each of you can work on. We have Sports, Entertainment, Health, Editorials, World and Local News, School Information, and Student Life. So who wants to do----"
"I can take Entertainment! I love music and movies!" said one young man
"Great! Dontae, right? You were in my Spanish class last year."
"Yes, m'am! I was!"
"Great, you'd be a great addition to our entertainment panel! I loved how you used to act out your presentations in Spanish class!" said Sasha
"Thanks!"
"Okay anyone else?"
"Sasha, I'll do the health section! It IS my forte obviously." said Dana
"Sure! I got you!"
"Anyone else? We also have a field reporter spot, you know. To get all of the latest news about the school and student life at the school. You would get press access to all school events such as games and parties and all. It's a tough job but it's worth it." said Sasha
"I'll do it." said a brunette haired girl
"Adrianna? You always did you know the Editorials and World News and all. This is a change…" said a confused Sasha
"Yeah…I just want, you know a little change and a challenge, for college applications and all. And you know it's the last year of high school, I wanna go out on a bang." said Adrianna
"Oh…okay! Adrianna is our new field reporter! Whoo!" said Sasha
"You can trust me." said Adrianna with a smile
"Okay, you all LET'S GET TO WORK! We have a big year ahead of us!" said Sasha
Hello all! So I will be going away for three-four days so I will not be on Tumblr as much. However, I will start working on the fifth chapter tonight and it will be posted up Tuesday the latest.
Thank you for your patience :)
I really want to make it up to the readers some how before I leave on my short hiatus.
So would anyone be interested in a live chat Q&A about Welcome to Rue High? or even just Whodunnit?
I know there are some pretty weird pairings in that last chapter I threw together horribly so feel free to ask me questions about that if you want in my inbox!
I know this chapter has too many forced ships and I kind of hate it but ENJOY
"Honestly, I feel horrible about saying no to the girls. It's just that I can possibly take fifty girls to the prom with me! I just hope they're okay like they all aren't too sad or what not. I just hope this isn't what this guidance meeting is about." thought Ulysses as he entered the office
"Mr. Wilson, please have a seat." said the guidance counselor "I have a very important issue I have to discuss with you."
"Mr. Zuiker, look, I was not in ANYWAY involved with the creation of that page on Facebook and if any girl feels bad about me rejecting her, honestly, I am very sorry if I made her feel that way but that wasn't my intent and ---" Ulysses defended himself
"Whoa, there. This meeting…it has nothing to do with that Facebook page, Mr. Wilson; although, the school has been getting several calls from several different guidance counselors around town---and wait, whoa now I'm getting off topic! Anyways it isn't about the Facebook page." Mr. Zuiker assured a worried Ulysses
"Phew."
"But what I'm about to tell you, Ulysses, is serious business. You want to graduate on time right?"
"Uh…yeah, of course. Doesn't every senior want to?"
"And you're applying to Stanford, UCLA, and Georgetown right?"
"Yeah, Georgetown's definitely my first choice then Stan---"
"Ulysses, see the thing is….you're short on credits."
t"WAIT WHAT, I GO TO EVERY CLASS AND DO ALL ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME , well maybe one or two were late, BUT I HAVE A 3.75 GPA, HOW WOULD I BE SHORT ON CRE---"
"Gym credits….Ulysses, for the past three years at Rue High, you've refused to participate in gym. All of your physical education teachers have complained that you refused to change into your gym uniform due to the fact that you don't want to, and I quote, "perspire and dirty your good clothes afterwards." And if you don't get finish your credits by the end of senior year, you will have to take summer school…for gym. If not, the state will not allow the school to grant you your diploma."
"GYM?!? I CAN'T GRADUATE BECAUSE OF GYM!? IT ISN'T MY FAULT THAT RUE HIGH DOESN'T HAVE SHOWERS WE COULD USE FOR AFTER CLASS." Ulysses said with a great flush on anger and frustration on his face
"There are ways to gain your credits. I suggest taking a gym elective along with your regular physical education class. If you do this, then you'll graduate on time. It's up to you, Ulysses. Would you rather sweat…..or graduate late?"
"Okay, fine. I'll take a gym elective and suffer through gym….what electives are still opened?" said Ulysses without hesitation
"Well let me just check on my computer….and see." Mr. Zuiker said as he searched for electives "It seems that gym electives are fully booked, due to freshman and sophomore requests, and since you are registering late for an elective, there are limited options. And by limited…I mean one. Yoga."
"YOGA?! Seriously. No, Mr. Zuiker. Can't you just switch me and a freshman in Synch. Swimming? I don't mind SWIMMING! Anything but yoga!"
"No, Mr. Wilson. It isn't fair to the other students. It's either the yoga or a late graduation."
"Fine." Ulysses said dejectedly
"Okay great, Mr. Wilson! So, yoga, fifth period, before lunch. And I hope to hear about improvements from your physical education teachers."
Ulysses got up and left the office.
"Now I really wish it was about the Facebook thing." Ulysses thought to himself
As class after class went by that day, Ulysses dreaded fifth period and was imagining all of the worst case scenarios that could happen.
"What if I'm placed next to someone who has bad hygiene? What if I embarrass myself doing these poses? What if my friends see me DOING those poses? I know Geno and Ronnie would definitely laugh at me….and Kam….he would have some smart remark to say about that." thought Ulysses
The fourth period dismissal bell rang and it was time for Ulysses to head over to Yoga. As he left his classroom, he heard two familiar voices from all the way down the hall.
"MY MAN ULYSSESSSSSSSS!!! HOW WAS JAIL? DID YOU GET IN TROUBLE?" Ronnie yelled as him and Geno were walking towards Ulysses
"Was it about that Facebook page? If, it was I mean! The struggles of being a pretty boy!" teased Geno
"No. It wasn't. It was something else."
"What happened?" Ronnie asked
"Okay…look if I tell you, don’t laugh, okay?" said Ulysses
"Yeah okay." said Geno
"Mr. Zuiker said I didn't have enough gym credits to graduate so I have to take a gym elective…and the only one that was opened was….yoga. I have to go there now." said Ulysses
"WAIT SERIOUSLY?!" Geno and Ronnie exclaimed at once
"Yeah…I know…it's embarrassing." Ulysses said dejectedly
"No, it isn't. My older brother does yoga on a daily basis and that guy is RIPPED. And I know plenty of people who had to take more gym classes due to credits. Remember the prom king last year? Matt? Yeah, he had to do the same. And he was placed in Zumba. It's no biggie. It happens to the best of us." reassured Geno
"Yeah, man. You’re our bro. Why would we laugh at you for that?" said Ronnie
"Thanks guys." said Ulysses
"No prob! See you at lunch?" Ronnie asked
"Nah, can't. I promised Kam that I'd read his Harvard essay at lunch. But I'll see you all around?" said Ulysses
"Right, Kam…..yeah, I mean we'll see each other in the halls!" said Geno
As they departed from each other, Ulysses went to the dance room for Yoga but the moment he stepped inside the room, all he heard was…
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S THE BOWTIE KING HIMSELF OMG IT'S ULYSSES!!!!!"
"NO WAY OMG I LOVE YOU ULYSSES!!!!!"
"ULYSSES, TAKE ME"
"NO TAKE ME!"
Fangirls….underclassmen fangirls who were the ones dying to go to prom with him.
"Okay class, please settle down. This is not a One Direction concert, this is still a class and the assignment was for you all to find a state of serenity…and that was clearly not serenity." said the Yoga instructor
With the teacher's instructions, the girls went back to their mats and whispered and giggled amongst themselves.
"Mr. Wilson, Mr. Zuiker told me that you signed up late due to certain circumstances. I'm Ms. Pond but feel free to just call me Ms. Stacie. Just grab a mat from the back and sit anywhere you like."
Ulysses looked around the room and the doe-eyed underclassmen girls and noticed one familiar face in the back of the room.
"HAHAHS! ULYSSES! Sit here!" exclaimed Lindsey
Ulysses took the spot next to Lindsey because he would rather sit by the new girl than the feening underclassmen.
"Thanks." he said to Lindsey
"No probs!! Hahahas! They just put me in this class as I needed a gym elective and this was the only one opened and I, of course, signed up later because I was a new student." Lindsey explained
"Tell me about it…." Ulysses said
"OKAY SO CLASS this position is the dogward dog." Ms. Stacie instructed
"So, how do you like Rue High so far?" Ulysses asked Lindsey as he was in the downward dog position
"It's great! HAHAHS I love honors Chemistry and all and I met some cool people like Sasha, Kam, and even Melina, who offered to sit with me at lunch next period, and Geno and Ronnie are HILARIOUS HAHAHAHS." Lindsey said excitedly as she laughed and giggled
Position after position, Ulysses eventually began to change his mind about yoga and the class.
"You know once you get past all the crazy fan girls, this class isn't as bad as I thought." he said to Lindsey
"Yeah! You're fun! I mean…the CLASS is fun! Not that you're not fun or anything. OMG. I mean you know the class AND you are fun." Lindsey said nervously as she tried to cover up a slip up
"Hahas. Thanks." Ulysses said as he shot Lindsey a small grin
*RING RING*
"Okay class! Great first day! Tomorrow, we'll work on the Warrior pose as well as the Swan." Ms. Stacie exclaimed
"BYE ULYSSES. See you tomorrow." said one of the sophomores as she went out the door
"After you, m'am." Ulysses said to Lindsey
"Why thank you!" Lindsey said, blushing just a bit
"See you later?"
"HAHAS yeah sure! Have fun at lunch!" said Lindsey as she watched Ulysses walk away
*Ding*
"Oooh! A text!" said Lindsey
[Hey Linds! It's Melina! I'm waiting outside at the picnic tables!]
Lindsey goes to her locker and quickly goes to the picnic tables to meet up with Melina.
"Hey!!! Let's sit here." exclaimed Melina as she pointed to the picnic table
"Thanks for sitting with me at lunch! I was so worried I wasn't going to find any friends! I'm so glad I found you in chemistry!" said Lindsey
"No probs! The seniors all usually sit outside for lunch and all and if you don't mind; Sasha, Dana, Geno, and Ronnie will be joining us just as soon as they get out of class." said Melina
"Oh no! I don't mind at all!!"
"Anyways, how was your first day so far? How were your classes? Did you find any cute guys?" said Melina as she winked
"HAHAHHAS it was great! And they were all so interesting! Everyone's so nice so far and speaking about nice, there's this really sweet guy in my Yoga class and he's actually kind of cute." said Lindsey as she smiled
"OMG WHO?!" said Melina
"HAHAHAS, Ulysses…"
"I didn’t know Ulysses took yoga but I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. Every OTHER girl in this school has a crush on Ulysses."
"I KNOW. The girls in my class today were DYING."
"I don't blame them. He's a good looking guy and he's so sweet!"
"Don't tell him I think he's attractive or whatever! I don't want him to think that I'm another fangirl."
"Oh, trust me. I won't." said Melina as she smiled
"HEY HEY HEY! There's my girl, MELINAAAAAA." said Ronnie as he approached the table
"Hey, Ronnie!" Melina said as she smiled
*BUZZ*
Melina felt the vibration of her phone from her bag.
[Seems you have a little liking to someone ;) - Linds]
[Noooooo LOL. He's like a brother to me!] Melina quickly sent a text to Lindsey
"OOOH IS THAT THE NEW iPHONE 5?" said Ronnie as he grabs the phone from Melina
"RONNIE! Give that back!" Melina demanded as she tried grabbing her phone back
"Ronnie, give Melina back her phone." said Sasha as she began to open up her salad
"I can't have a little fun around here can I? Here, Melina."
"Thanks, Ron." said Melina
"So, anyways Lindsey how was your first day?" asked Dana
"It was great! Sasha, you were GREAT in that debate today in history!" said Lindsey
"Thanks, Lindsey. I could have won if it wasn't for that douche, Kam."
"My ears are burningggg!" Kam said as he passed by their lunch table with Ulysses
"Don't mind him, guys!" said Ulysses
The two walked over to their usual lunch table.
"Kam, just be nice to Sasha once in a while. She's a cool girl." said Ulysses
"SERIOUSLY, U. She's thinks she knows EVERYTHING JUST because she's "Ms. Reporter and I watch CNN and C-SPAN each day." She just gets on my every last nerve."
"Sighs, anyways. Where's that essay you wanted me to read?"
"Here it's in my bind--"
"Mind if I also take a look?" a voice came from behind Kam
"HEY Cris! Yeah, help me read this for Kam." said Ulysses
"Uh…hi Cris…yeah sure…" said Kam awkwardly
"Can I join you guys for lunch?" asked Cris
"OF COURSE! You don’t mind if she sits here right, Kam?"
"Uh…..YEAH! I mean…NO! I mean, you can sit here." said Kam as he struggles to retain his usual, adamant self
