Neon light, flashing right outside the window, sound of late night traffic, mingled with nocturnal noises of a cheap hotel. This is what botched reservations, incompetence and work, finished six hours later than it should have been, do, and sharing a narrow bed is the pinnacle of it all.
Daniel lies in the bed, skin shimmering with a mist of sweat. The heat is what forces him to wear nothing but underwear, and it’s the heat that finally pushes his legs over the side of the bed, too. Wu is warm, his heat radiating past the confines of his body, and when Daniel turns back to look at him in the darkness, he wonders at the stark contrast with boy’s otherwise icy demeanor.
“Where are you going? It’s late.”
“Out,” he says, his silhouette briefly illuminated by the red glow from outside. Then, darkness again, shuffling of feet across the floor. “Maybe it’s cooler on the fire escape stairs.”
To say that Wu was miserable was an understatement. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong and now he was paying the consequences for mistakes he didn't even make. The hotel was dingy and he had to share the only room available with his current "co-worker". What had he done to let things get to this point?
It was ridiculously hot and he too had decidedly stripped down to his boxers in hopes that it would be his saving grace from the growing heat. However, he was wrong in so many ways. They'd discarded the sheets, the few windows that were a part of the room were opened as far as they could be and the broken air conditioner sat in the corner mocking them. Was this what hell was like? Probably.
To top it all off he couldn't sleep. Insomnia had threatened him and taken him hostage as he laid there with his back to the other man. Though his eyes were closed and his body still, sleep did not come. He was too aware. The sounds of the street were too loud, the air too thick and the heat radiating off the other was almost too much to handle.
Everything halted as he felt the bed shift and he spoke, turning his head to look over his shoulder. His eyes narrowed at the sudden intensity of the light before it died down again. He listened to the short words and turned back to his original position. "Alright..." he said simply, though moments had passed and a disgruntled sound left him as he sat up.
"Guess I'll join you... If the heat doesn't kill me first, whatever that is crawling in the corner will..."he murmured.
