i love thinking about wu’s intense self-hatred and self-blame and self-loathing because he genuinely believes that everything bad that ever happened to his loved ones was his fault. it doesn’t matter to him that, in cases such as the great devourer biting garmadon, he was just a young kid. it doesn’t matter that some of the situations where his loved ones were harmed were unpreventable, or were ones he couldn’t prevent singlehandedly. the guilt is overwhelming and he feels like there’s nothing he can do to help it.

Wu always seemed to me to be someone quite depressed deep down, someone who blames himself for his mistakes and doesn't talk about them because of how much guilt he feels about them.

Hey bro do you think Wu is painfully aware he's probably going to outlive all the ninja, with the possible exception of Lloyd, who may be forced to watch all his friends slowly age and die as well?

Oh I think he knows klsdflamsdf The guy’s already outlived several people. The timeline in Ninjago is a bit funky, but we know at least Cole’s grandpa was fighting alongside him during the serpentine war and I can guarantee that he ain’t around anymore lol 

I imagine Wu’s probably seen quite a few people age and pass away while he lingers. He seems to know a lot less young people besides the Ninja, so excuse me while I headcanon that he stopped trying to get close to people and distanced himself so he wouldn’t have to keep losing the people he cared about. Can’t lose anyone if you don’t have anyone, right?  

Until his responsibilities as the son of the first spinjitzu master came back and he had to find the ninja to help prepare them for the destiny they would face cause like HECK he’s leaving them to deal with it all alone. He knows what it’s like to have everything on only one person’s shoulders and that’s the last thing he wants for the next protectors of ninjago.
