Joyful Reunion made it to my top 5 favorite danmei 🥹 I can barely put into words how satisfied I am with how everything played out.
Duan Ling may have had chemistry with a lot of the male characters, but he and Wu Du are amazing together. They're literally the best thing that could happen to each other. And their romance blossomed so naturally it was wonderful to see. Plus, an assassin ML is all I needed 😍
Great side characters (Zheng Yan my beloved), great plot and great angst. It deserves all the attention. Highly recommended for when it comes out in June!
Now, time to listen to the audio drama to fill the void.
I slept three hours last night and I'm about to make it everyone's problem so I present
joyful reunion characters send you a valentine's day card
cw: spoilers for ending and extras, multishipping, terrible jokes, knives
duan ling: it's a very pretty card, the paper has flower petals and rare plants embedded into it. in it, he reveals that he's the crown prince of your kingdom, and begs you to never treat him differently, even after he ascends to the throne
wu du: he personalized the card with pictures and drawings of things you like, and it smells very good (almost too good if we're being honest... and you start feeling a little drowsy after opening it). he put some trinkets he thought you'd like inside the envelope as well. however, the post scriptum asks you to remind him what your name is
lang junxia: there is a card, but he hid it so well that you won't find it until six months after you two break up. inside there are all the words he didn't tell you while you were together. you find yourself wishing you'd never broken up with him, and go stargazing on your own
zheng yan: there's no card. he's already in your house, naked covered only by a bouquet of flowers, and a five course meal with accompanying wine menu is ready on the table
A LOT more under the cut dkdkfkf but this post is already too long
it felt exactly like that🙄🙄
Once again I have no self-control and started Joyful Reunion.
I'm intrigued so far and I like that it's taking its time to establish Duan Ling's background and relationships.
What I was not expecting is how I'm so many chapters in and the ML has barely appeared. I wouldn't even know he is the ML if I hadn't looked it up beforehand.
But I can feel that's because he has his own thing going on and I'm curious about how their relationship is gonna develop.
30 day character challenge – day 7: The hottest character
OK, I can't possibly name every single hottie I have had a crush on because I might just as well sit down and write a friggin' novel.
But Snake from The Five Venoms is definitely one of my all time faves. Wei Pai has proven more than once that he could actually be a very good screen fighter (he sure wasn't among the best in his generation but he absolutely doesn't deserve all the bad rap he gets) – but Snake was originally written as a woman – and it still shows in the revised, male version of the character; therefore it was Wei Pai's main objective in that film to show of his pretty face and statuesque physique and to look gorgeous in white (while being a cunning, evil bitch). And he did. He smirked, sneered, he rocked those insane white and silver outfits and he was smokin’ hot. 8 years since I first saw that film and I still love that bastard.
(Someone hand me a drool bucket...)
30 day movie meme. Day 11 - a movie that changed your opinion about something
OK, I’m waaaay behind with this thing...
I’ve thought long and hard about this one but while there have been numerous films that brought something new to my attention/made me a fan of something, I have trouble coming up with a few that actually *changed* my mind about something I had already formed an opinion about - at least as long as we’re talking more or less serious issues.
So I’ll have to make this entry a rather frivolous one.
Interview with the Vampire changed my opinion about Tom Cruise (had kinda hated him previously, became a fan afterwards).
Though I gotta admit this movie is one of the very few (like, maybe 2 or 3) that work better for me in the dubbed version. Thing is, as much as I like Cruise, I can’t say the same about his voice. His voice vaguely annoys me - and he was dubbed into Czech by a guy who not only had a pleasant voice but was, in all fairness, also a better actor (hate to use the past tense here - but, sadly, Vladimír Dlouhý managed to drink himself to death a few years ago).
Anyway...
Honourable mentions: Hotaru no haka (Grave to the Fireflies) - one of the few things that made me willing to at least briefly look at WW2 from strictly Japanese perspective; didn’t really change my mind with regard to the role Japan played in WW2, though - I still believe the Japanese are nowhere near sorry enough (collectively speaking). Le Roi danse (The King is Dancing) - for some reason (now unfathomable) I used to hate Baroque. Le Roi danse sort of helped change that.
But - y’know - more often than not, my taste in movies reflects shifts and changes in my preferences and views. It rarely causes them. Wu du (Five Deadly Venoms) sure played its part in my becoming a sinophile - but I bought that DVD because I was already kinda headed in that direction anyway...
