When you're building and launching a new product or service, you need to consider how much upfront behavior change is required on the part of the intended customer. - Old habits die hard. It's typically an uphill battle to get people to break free from long standing behavior that's linked to a previous product or service. Even the promise of a substantial benefit from using something new and novel might not be strong enough to shake people free from their old ties. - So what do you do? For starters, old habits were new behaviors once. They became old because of staying power, and that "power" is linked to how closely they formed around deep-seated core motivations and pain points: - Desires to be liked, attractive, sexy, high status, seen as smart, powerful, important...And pains of boredom, anxiety, awkwardness, "I hate doing ___" statements, and all other forms of inconvenience and discomfort. - To build something for the long term, you have to build with the customer and their 'culture map' in mind. - Are they sports fanatics x sneakerheads x pop art aficionados? Of those cultures, which has a greater influence over their lifestyle choices? How does this inform their political views or music choices? What do they want to signal socially? Who do they want to connect with or be acknowledged by? All the nuances of who they are and why they do what they do starts and ends with the culture(s) and values they subscribe to. - From there, you can start to see where the needs, wants and desires exist - the genesis of habits. For better or worse, we are the sum total average of our repeat behavior. If you want your products and services to have a 'seat at the table' and earn some staying power, start thinking in terms of culture maps & habits. #MULFMAB advising, developing and empowering #creatives and companies within #fashion #music #art #tech #design and beyond on #business #marketing #branding #sales #finance #culture #businessbuilders #brandbuilders #dealmakers #cultureconnectors #Beawolfaboutyourdream #MYUBERLIFE #WULFuniversity #WÜLFuniversity #businesstips
