Matthijs de Ligt ‘s clinching of the Golden Boy award once again highlighted how the Ajax academy continues to be the incubator of future superstars in world football. De Ligt indeed has a bright future ahead of him but the Ajax captain also has teammates who can match his talents and are sure to have a storied career in the years to come.
Here are three other players at Ajax whose…

thoughts about learning>studying and wunderkinds & academia:
im reading a whole bunch of wsj articles and educational psychologists' reports and these theories about wunderkinds and the way we as a society treat child geniuses as well as the fact that in schools generally, if youre not a wunderkind then you don't get taught maths: you get taught fear. and all of these things are making me think about a part of learning (not studying, learning bc its great) that nobody ever teaches you: unlearning. forgetting what you know and approaching things in this world with brand new eyes. problem? if you want to read academic literature, you're judged. if you dont? judged. judged by both your peers and those who are meant to nurture you - i asked my teacher a question about the golden ratio one time because i was intersted and she said i wasn’t smart enough to understand it. things like this, things like “do you even know what octane is” while i was reading about petrol, i feel like its just proof that there is so much in the world trying to stop people from learning! the question is why and the strong anti capitalist vibes in me say,”to control the uneducated masses”. academia doesn't make it any easier and almost seems to deliberately exclude people from the exclusive circle of higher level understanding by using words that are unnecessarily incomprehensible. i dont know, i just feel like it's gotten harder and harder to gain and retain knowledge when what's drilled is "you need this for xyz so cram it and nobody cares if you dont understand it just do it". it's always annoyed me and i'm feeling v strong about it tonight. that is all
"Pat ya'r really fuckin' stupid, an' reckless. Then again, who am I one t' talk to?"
Patrick laughed, brushing the dirt from his knee. Or trying to at least. With the blood still in the scrape and the dirt on his hands, it was difficult to say if his knee was less dirty now, or more.
"I ain't any more stupid'n you are. So yeah. Ya ain't one t' talk at all Rebecca."
It had just been a little bit of a fall when the blond had tried to climb up onto a news stand to look around. Nothing he wasn't used to. Besides, they'd not heard a splicer in almost a day. Maybe they were in an area without them.
❛ Ladies don’t start fights, but they can finish them. ❜
Jack frowned softly. It seemed to him that Rebecca started plenty of fights. But she did also finish them. So...it was half true. Did it make it right?
"Arcadia? Are you going to finish fights then? Since you're a lot more of a lady than your sister is..."

35. saving someone’s life
It was not a child's job to protect an adult. It never should be. If Daniel had any say, it never would be. So when, over and over, he was forced to shove Rebecca aside to stop her from rushing into battle, he did without hesitation. When he, inevitably, had to enlist the help of Arcadia to keep Rebecca out of harms way, he did so without an ounce of shame.
Nearly a year the man had fought to keep those girls not only alive, but well. As well as anyone in the distopian city could be. By the end of that time however, Dan had done what he had initially deemed impossible; got them to the surface.
